Network cable is unplugged...NOT!
by Guest the captain- 2 replies

I am periodically losing my Internet connection on my primary computer. It is physically connected to the cable modem, as opposed to a wireless connection. About every 10 to 15 minutes, a message window will pop up at the bottom of my screen indicating that the "network cable is unplugged". I lose the connection for a second or two, and then it come back up. Since the problem started, I have replaced the network card, all the network cables and the cable modem. My cable provider has physically inspected the equipment and decided it must be a problem with my system/sofware. I am running Windows XP Media Center. I run antivirus and antispyware software r…

UMTS Merlin wireless gsm PCMCIA network card
by Guest Frank- 1 reply

Hello, I purchased a wireless gsm-card PCMCIA Novatel Merlin U530 On the CD there is only a simple "lucent.exe" installing some connect software. I installed this, but whenever I slip in the card, Windows XP Professional wants the driver for the card. My dealer insists, that the dirver comes with the connect software, says on other pc the card doesnt make any problem. So the problem is with my Windows ? Could it be, that there is a service necessary to be started using PCMCIA cards ? The laptop has a wireless LAN network card too. Could this cause the trouble ? Frank

notification area icons resetting themselves
by Guest Wally Wombat- 2 replies
Hi All I am running XP Pro and have noticed recently that the settings I place on the icons in my notification area keep losing their settings. By this I mean, If I go into the properties and select "always show", at a later date I notice they are not showing; and the setting has changed to "hide when inactive". Any ideas why this is happening. This usually happens after the computer has been restarted, eg power cut. Regards Wombat -- Eats, roots and leaves.

Cookies and Flash resets on restart
by Guest ThemePark- 4 replies

Lately I have been getting a lot of BSODs, so in an attempt to solve that problem I made a repair of Windows XP. That solved the problem, but has in turn given me several other problems, most of which I have however managed to solve. But two problems persist. Some websites have the Remember me option, and if I click it and log in, and then later restart my computer, it has been reset and I have to log in again. This happens every time I restart my computer. Same thing with the Flash player. I can install it and confirm that it works on e.g. Youtube, but as soon as I restart and go there again, I'm told that I don't have it installed. Most of my other prob…

The filename you specified is invalid or too long
by Guest Bikini Browser- 6 replies

Hello everyone... I'm trying to migrate files from a Windows SBS 2000 server to a Windows 2003 SBS R2 new server. The data drive is alone so I should be able to just copy ALL the data from one drive to the other using Winwows Explorer. Both target and destination drives are NTFS. I am using the standard Windows Explorer, click-dragging folders from the old data drive to the new 2003 Server's Hard Disk. Everything works as expected except that every once in a while I get a message like "The filename you specified is invalid or too long". and then the copying stops. This usually happens in folders that are nested 3 to 5 levels "deep" ore more in the folder…

I have updated the yahoo toolbar on my computer to the new 7.x version but still have the 6.x version hanging around. In the add/remove programs there is only one option which I would assume would uninstall the entire thing. Anyone know how to get rid of the old one?

USB driver error code 31 - not in XP
by Guest Clay Routh- 4 replies

I do realize it's inappropriate to ask this question in this particular forum and I apologize in advance, but... It is a W2K question and i find no forum for it. Can anyone here direct me to the hotfix associated with KB822368? I applied SP4 to a critical laptop (it has a lot of software required for configs in Comm/Nav/Radar that it will take weeks to find the original installation disks for) and the SP broke the USB devices. I will be forever in your debt. Feel free to contact me at clay.routh2gmailcom, I assume everyone knows the exercise for making that address work. Thank you.
