Help - can't remove window shadowing...
by Guest mvtofino- 2 replies
Hello Forum! I hope someone can help me remove the shadowing that is left behind on my screen when certain notification windows, dialog boxes, or drop boxes close. It doesn't happen all the time or with any apparent pattern or consistency, and the only way I have found to remove them is to log off or switch users back and forth. Usually the fix is short, but then other times it behaves properly for hours. The time lost is most frustrating, not to mention the difficulty reading what is hidden behind the shadows or my growing anger with this problem. I would surely appreciate any comments or suggestions.... and yes, I have already tried threatening t…

by Guest SJB- 0 replies

Hi, During the attempted Setup for Fax in XP pro SP2 the i386 folder that was prompted for, is missing. Neither the XP pro SP2 installation disk has it, which was suggested to use. However, I'd have access to XP SP2 Home i386 folder and it's files in it At where earlier the Fax Service setup was a success. Should/could I use these files for the Fax Service installation at the XP pro SP2? Thanks sjb

Hoping someone can help me on this. I have some programs I want to remove, however when I click on "Add/Remove Programs," it populates only a partial list, and the button to click to proceed with the removal of a program is missing. I've tried restarting, but it hasn't helped. Please, if someone knows the solution, please let me know. Cheers!

Briefcase and PDF files
by Guest Bob H.- 0 replies

I am having problems ONLY with PDF files not being recognized by Briefcase, and not ALL PDF files; only some. It seems as though they are somehow flagged as 'do not include'. I get no errors or prompts, they just don't go... I posted here because XP is what I'm running on all my machines (3) and they all exhibit this peculiar behavior. I can provide copies of those files that work and those that don't... -- Bob H.

W32Time - synching system time on domain
by Guest Wendy- 0 replies

Hi all, I have continuous errors showing in the event logs on both our new server Win 2003 SBS, and all Win XP Pro desktops/laptops on the domain. From reviewing another posting and link listed below, I have noted that the syncing of system time apparently does not work on domains. http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support/browse_thread/thread/a047572a1a85b146/92693d77d9b13829?lnk=st&q=&rnum=1&hl=en#92693d77d9b13829 Is there anything I can do to stop these errors coming up in the system event logs for all computers on the domain? (eg a way to turn off the computers even looking for the service, not sure tha…

I checked this on Goggle w/o any luck...What does this warning window mean: Ox7c9106c3 referenced memory Ox6c14f6fa? It opened up while I was doing a spell check on a NG post. I have an HP Professional Desk Top computer, 2 years old in October, on which is XP Pro Sr 2, Office 2003, all updates current (including today's to scan my system for "malicious" invasions from MS...which I really didn't want to do, but... I use Avast, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and Windows firewall is ON. Nothing has shown as a problem in any of the above. Thank you... aka Puddintaine

LAN files copy fast, local LAN FTP 20x slower?
by Guest DeanB- 0 replies

Can anyone help me here? I have a DLink DNS 323 network storage server, connected over a local LAN (Linksys WRT54G router). The server maps to a local drive letter, and I can transfer files like lightning. However, if I drag the same bunch of files over to the FTP site that points to this server, it takes around 20 times as long - about 90 seconds to transfer 48MB (0.5 MB per second). Are FTP servers inherrently slow? I have checked that there is no band- width limit on the server setup. Thanks! Dean

Is anyone familiar with this adsl modem/router and it's NAT, ...and other settings. It's being distributed by TalkTalk ISP here in the UK. http://www.huawei.com/products/terminal/products/view.do?id=121&pageId=121_0 I rummaged through, and checked it's settings as best I could and NAT is on but, the rest of the settings look nothing like I've ever seen before, ...well I recognized most of them :-( Using Steve Gibsons port probing job at http://www.grc.com/default.htm the machine to which the above mentioned modem/router is connected got a "failed" on his Common Ports check. The results screen for the check on the common service ports responded wi…

Folder list on Windows Explorer
by Guest kevin- 3 replies

Hi, all. I found the answer to this here in the past, but I can't find it this time. Take pity! I'm using XP Pro. I have a My Documents icon in the Quick Launch bar. When I click on it, it used to display the folders tree on the left side, but now I have to click on the Folders button to display the folders. I would like it to default that way. It seems like, when I fixed it before, it was some registry setting, but I can't remember which. Anybody? TIA

Re: Device Manager Does Not Recognize Kodak EasyShare Camera I had the same problem with my Kodak easyshare, but I didn't use the USB port - I plugged my memory card straight into the computer. After digging, my computer said I had a "Code 10" error. After troubleshooting, it told me to uninstall the program that recognizes the memory card, and reinstall it. I've uninstalled it... but NO ONE has been able to help me find out where to redownload the program. I e-mailed microsoft twice, and both times they redirected me to outside sources. Can anyone help me? I'm not exactly sure what I deleted because I assumed I could just go step by step with troubles…

My Documents - repost
by Guest FPS, Romney- 8 replies

Hi, Is each user account supposed to have its own private My Documents folder? I thought this was the case, but when I created a new user account, it displayed the same files in My Documents and had the same privileges to those files as the original user account. To clarify (I hope) ... I had an existing user account -- User1/Password1, which everyone in the office used. I wanted to keep the settings for that account, but make its files private for one particular person and create a separate account for everyone else. I renamed the User1/Password1 account and password to PrivateAccount/PrivatePassword and then created a new account with the original user…
