Help please, While playing a computer game, my computer just restarts and goes into loading Windows XP. However, I got the message that the operating system load failed. Thus I had the options of entering XP through a Safe Mode, Last known configuration, and so on. I tried all of them but XP still fails and goes back to those options of using Safe Mode and what not. I do have the Windows XP CD. But I would prefer not to have to re-install XP and loose everything. Any ideas on what to do? Thank You,

Can someone tell me where I can locate the 'Window host files'. I recently remove a virus called 'winaxx.exe.' but now when I try to run Norton's liveupdate I am getting a error message from Norton Internet Security that some of their files are in the Windows host files which needs to be removed. I would like to delete them but I don't know where the 'Host files' are located on the computer.

Problem after installing SP2
by Guest ArtRuss- 8 replies

I had a spyware issue and resolved that on my niece's Sony computer. It is running XP Home Edition. I set up automatic downloads and installed several (59) downloads. Following that, and the machine was working properly, windows reported that AD was ready to install SP2. It downloaded it and then began the install. It took a long time to finish the installation but it finally did. After it restarted, the machine loads XP Sp2 but does not bring up any icons or taskbar and simply shows the desktop background. I have restarted it in Safe mode and get exactly the same response. No icons or taskbar and no desktop background. It will bring up the Task Manager in…

Spontaneous closing
by Guest vranab- 6 replies

Having a pesky sporatic problem with a program window closing spontaneously. I frequently run several instances of the same telnet program simultaneously. Have been doing this for years on multiple computers without any problems. But on a new laptop I got a couple of months ago, one or more of the instances will occasionally close for no apparent reason, with nobody touching the computer. At first, I thought I was going crazy, but it has happened enough times that I know it is real. Has never happened with the same software on any other computer, so I don't think it's the particular piece of software but rather something in the particular computer or …

I started getting error messages on IE. When I went to the Event Viewer to check them out, I noticied thatunder "Event Viewer (Local)" there is now an "Internet Explorer" section although there are "no items to show in this view." However, when checking messages under the "Application" tab, there are Internet Explorer error messages with an event ID "1001." Anyway we can get these to show up under the "Internet Explorer" tab. I am using IE 7. Please advise. -- Red Baron

Howdy just getting around to installing SP2 onto my non-online/non-network workstation Win XP, sp1 system. (intel 3.06 cpu, 1GB ram, Scsi, etc) Have tried several times & always get this result: After the backing up files stage, I get a box which says: "Service pack 2 Setup Error, Service Pack 2 canceled" That's it, no further info. Have loaded all default services.files etc......just thought of something....I'll try installing it via Safe Mode later....but I'll post this message in the hopes that one of you will have an idea. Many Thanks
