Safe Mode won't load
by Guest Panic- 1 reply

I have WinXP SP2 which, in normal use works fine. Recently I find I cannot boot into the Safe Mode. It starts its loading but after the welcome screen it reboots automatically. I have scanned with NIS and SpywareBot and find nothing there. I did a repair install with my WinXP Home SP2 disk to try to fix it if a basic Windows file is corrupted. No improvement and it took me FOREVER to get the recent XP updates back on my system PLUS Internet Explorer 7.0. Anyone have any solutions for this problem?

I have been trying to get my computer TV card finally functional. Under windows XP Media center. After reading I try to find a fix to my problem. The guys at Microsoft were brilliant at providing a patch/hotfix that is not yet release but it addresses my issue specifically with the ATI 650 video card. Big problem: I have neen reading and doing research because I have not been able to install because it is a type of package that can easily be install is Vista by clicking using WUSA. I extract it into an MSU package but I extremely lost at this point because I don’t know How to install. Thanks in advance for any assistance I gave up another 2 day…

Trying to use Recovery Console.

So I want to use method 2 listed here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q315341&ID=KB;EN-US; Q315341 to re-install by starting the computer from the Windows CD. I get as far as "Which Windows installation would you like to log onto?" I don't know what this means but by typing any letter it says; "Please select a valid installation number." So using the word "number" as a clue I type 1 which gets me to "Type the Administrator password". I have no passwords. I used no passwords setting up this OS originally. I am trying to recover the system because it is asking me for a non-existent password when I try to boot up. So, an…

Task Bar icons won't close
by Guest DNB- 4 replies

There are about 8 or nine folders sitting in my task bar (not the system tray), and I can't get rid of them. The right click menu has no close option, and opening and then attempting to close them my clicking on the X simply mimimizes the folders again. Rebooting is no help either. Very frustrating! Thanks for any help.

I want to record a voice wav file. Using XP I've plugged in a USB Logitech Microphone. I think the new hardware has been recognized. But when I go to Start - All Prog - Accessories - Entertainment - Sound Recorder and the recorder appears, it's missing the lower portion where the control panel and record button (red) should appear. Clicking on New does not bring up the controls and the red control button. Help! L

I'm running Windows XP SP2 on an older machine (Athlon XP 1800). The USB ports are 1.1 compliant, not 2.0. Anytime I connect a USB 2.0 device or turn on my USB 2.0 printer, I get a warning message, which I have to click on to dismiss: "This device can perform faster. This USB Device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi -Speed USB 2.0 port. For a list of available ports, click here." Is there some way I can turn off this message? Thanks for any help, Steve

Win XP Home + SP2 + updates In a limited user account, no recently used program is ever listed. (The admin account does not have this problem.) Right click Start. Click Properties. Start Menu tab. Click Customize. "Number of programs on Start menu: 9". But it never shows any, let alone 9. What do I do to make it show recently used apps? Thanks.

I have just resurrected a computer. The motherboard died. I replaced the motherboard, reformatted C: and reinstalled XP Pro. Now when it starts up it asks for the user. Before it went right into "Don", the only user on the system. How do I get it back to the way it was? Don <www.donwiss.com> (e-mail link at home page bottom).

Advice on XP Reinstall
by Guest Joseph- 10 replies

I have a 7 year old Dell computer that was donated to our church a year ago but was just put in storage. I now want to use it. The company that donated it had upgraded it from a Win 2000 Pro to an XP Pro system. However, I'd like to clean it up by doing a clean install. I have the Win 2000 product key, but don't have information regarding a Win XP product key as, I believe, it was a corporate upgrade license. Would I be able to use the Win 2000 product key with a Win XP installation? If not, what other options do I have? The donating company no longer exists so I can't get historical info. TIA
