I tired posting this last wk but somehow it didn't show up, so I am trying again. I am thinking of changing my ISP. I know if I change my email addr. I change the server name in OE. I assume the same goes for Newsgroups. But what I'd like to know is if I have Newsgroups already do I have to unsubscribe / resubscribe to them over again or will they carry over? TIA

XP PRO SR2++ changes in my system??
by Guest Laughingstar~*- 5 replies

Lately, I'm noticing strange changes in my programs, and at time my cursor "tremble" or "shivers." Today, I scanned a colored document and when I went to open it for editing (color, lightness, crop, et al), and tried to Save As, My Pictures open up in file name format, not Icons as its done for years prior (all MS systems I've had). It was irritating b/c I couldn't save what I'd edited. Also, my scanner tried to scan it as a .bitmap not .jpg... My MS Word (Office 2003, w all updates also) now asks me to sign in to My Computer, and my ID is already in there, so I merely X out...but what's going on? Nothing seems amiss. Use AVG, AdAware, have WFW on, and did a clean inst…

Home or Pro?
by Guest Mikey- 7 replies

One of the people at work brought in kid's computer, saying it wouldn't boot. After BIOS messages, I just get a black screen, so I thought a repair install would do the trick. Now the fun starts, they think it's running XP, & don't know if it's home or pro, much less SP1 or SP2! I booted off of 2 different Pro disks, SP1 & SP2, but wasn't given the option of chosing which XP installation I wanted to repair. Should I take this as an indicator that it's running Home? I would just try booting from a Home disk, but I don't have one of them. I can boot off a Knoppix CD & see the HD & all its contents. Is there a way to get the product key when access…

AutoPatcher

It seems whenever some company or someone comes up with a great method of doing things for Windows, Microsoft has to ruin it. I liked AutoPatcher for updating Windows XP computers, especially when it has saved time and allows for updating XP computers that have slower connections. See: http://www.autopatcher.com/134

32-bit editions of Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista
by Guest husky86- 2 replies

I have read several technical articles which note that the 32-bit editions of Windows XP Pro or Windows Vista -- as opposed to the 64-bit editions -- cannot take advantage of anything more than 4 GB of RAM. Beyond this point it is, essentially, a waste of money to have additional RAM on board. Is this technically true? The reason that I'm asking is because we are presently considering the acquisition of a new desktop computer for our small business. We would certainly like to be able to take advantage of more than 4 GB of RAM with the Vista 64-bit edition. However, one of the key pieces of software that we use is 32-bit only -- Dragon NaturallySpeak…
