tasks stopped running

I've been reading the questions and answers regarding task manager problems and none address the issue I am facing. My tasks no longer run. I have scheduled tasks that are still showing up in task manager and their respective programsl however, none run when scheduled. Even my video taping schedules or my computer's television program will not run when programmed. All was working fine until a few weeks ago when an automatic update of Windows ran. Then suddenly none of my scheduled tasks would run. I can find no reason for this and I don't know what update caused this. Any ideas?

Hi, I just built myself a new computer. Now my problem is, When i first installed windows xp home edition, this is what happened. After i created a partition, then had it formatted and after formatting it starts to copy the files. After that is gives me an error saying that one of the files can not be copied because the windows xp cd is not a valid cd image. I press a button to retry and it works. I installed windows through this process 5 times with the same results on different files that couldnt be copied. After I do install windows, I update to service pack 2 with all the drivers installed that comes with the motherboards CD. The problem is, when i try …

Automatic conversion of incoming message to .eml attachment

When I open an incoming mail, the message briefly shows up on my OE6 window for less than a second, and then the message automatically converts to an attachment with .eml file form. I have to read the message on internet explorer window by opening the .eml file. This situation occurrs only from one particular person, not all other person. Is this my e-mail option setting problem or sender's option problem? M.hahn

skipping double letters

I'm using XP MCE on a Toshiba notebook PC. I keep having a trouble of letters being skipped when I type rapidly. This is most apparent when I type a double letter (letter might come out leter), but it sometimes happens in other cases if I type real fast. I've gone to the settings for the keyboard and tried different settings unsuccessfully. At present the keyboard properties are set as follows for "Speed": Repeat delay: set to closest to Short Repeat rate: set to closest to Fast. Have I got the settings wrong? Is there somewhere else I should look? Thanks. Jeff

I am trying to Use VMware fusion for mac. but my macbook pro ( intel based) won't accept the windows xp cd. but on imac it works fine. it's the laptop. the CD is ok, ppl from mackbook pro (intel) forum had same issues, but didn't know the solution. I assumed Only way to get around is to make a copy of install CD. I copied all the content from windows CD to Imac, then copied into blank dvd dsk. but NOW the problem is THIS DISK IS NOT BOOTABLE. How do you make bootable installation copy of windows XP. Should I do it with my PC?? please help. thank you

I'm trying to help a relative with XP pro. He recently switched to cable from DSL, and he's getting disconnected a lot, whereas he never used to. His computer also "freezes up" for a few seconds if he has a couple of programs running at the same time, whereas he used to be able to do this with DSL. I told him it sounds like the cable modem is using up more of his RAM. Is this likely, or is it likely to be something else? Thanks in advance.

Remote assistance as remote control

Is it possible to use remote assistance as remote control (i.e. initate a remote assistance session from a remote comnputer without havign to have someone on the other end "accept" the connection)? I have a number of comuters that are used as unmanned dispalys that I control using VNC, but would rather use the built-in remote control features in XP. Remote Desktop will not work since it will leave the computer "locked" upon disconnect and also does not keep the same diaply resolution settings. I have found GPO settings to allow unsolicated assistance, but it still requires the assistee to acknowledge the request.

failed fresh install

I have a spare IBM ThinkPad for travelling which is now 4 years old. It is fine in hardware terms. I am running the original Genuine Windows XP Pro, SP 2. I have always kept it up to date. Very recently, the OS fails to load; I get a fatal error blue screen and it either freezes, so that I have to disconnect the battery, or it goes back to the start up routine, gets to the same place, then freezes again or restarts. I have tried to start in Safe Mode; it won't. I have tried to load windows from a fresh XP disk (I don't have the original) it won't. hmmm only thing affected is my soundcard. after the error it becomes disabled. i am able to restore this by restarting the services again. however after sometime.. i get the error msg again. I an attempting to install Intel Create & Share Software, the update disc for windows XP. It is for camera model CS430. The message I get when install begins is; "This product requires 32 MB of RAM. Your system has only -1033 MB. Setup cannot continue." I'm running XP home with 3GB of ram. How can I install this program?

Hi I have been trying to install Windows XP Professional on my PC but it freezes on the splash screen. I have tried it with a different hard drive with the same result, ran Memtest86 which showed no errors and the installation disc works fine on other PC's. The PC worked fine until I tried to reinstall the operating system. Can anyone please suggest any other procedures I can take to rectify this problem? 224 RAM Celeron D processor 2.4 GHZ
