is it possible to have two sound cards on one XP machine?
by Guest Niteowl- 6 replies

Hi, My purpose is to run old win95/98/dos games under winxp. the games seem to install okay and run the video, but the onboard sound setting won't/don't match up with these old legacy game settings. (i.e. duke nukem, age of empires, half life, winroids(actually a 3.1 game), etc. So I was wondering if it's possible to simply install an older sound card without disabling the newer or an onboard sound function. Seems like I would just need a separate pair of speakers if this will work. ?? I currently have one win98 machine just so I can still run these games, but it won't last forever. thanks for any suggestions. (be nice) ;) niteowl

RE: Registry Cleanup Software

RE: Registry Cleanup Software As you can see, I'm coming very, very late to this thread. But a lot of good points have been expressed. Shenan gives a lot of information. Some of it is helpful. Some is not. But it's a noble effort. Bottom line: each user has to take the time out to learn a new OS. There is no one solution for all the problems an OS can develop. For keeping your computer running fast and smooth here's some of my favorite EZ generic tips that may help you stay out of trouble: 1) Never load up software that you don't need. Don't use sharware that hasn't been getting rave reviews by at least a dozen other users. 2) You need a good fire…

Why when I unplugged the battery does the screen dim? Is there anyway to change this when it isn't running on the ac adapter? When I have it plugged in the screen is bright, I unplugged the ac charger and the screen on my laptop dims.

ActiveX control not invoked by IE while opening tif-image
by Guest henjrn@gmail.com- 0 replies

While opening a tif-image IE should invoke SwiftView (ActiveX control).. It seems that IE does not recognice the mime type, and displayes the tif file as text instead of invoking the activeX control. Some tif-images work and some not. Hope anyone can help with this issue.

Windows Explorer delay
by Guest mc- 2 replies

Lately when I open windows explorer it would launch but stays blank for a long time before showing the directory tree. Similarly, whenever I am working with an application (Excel, Word, etc.) and attempt to save a file by clicking "save as", the little window opens with the defaul folder, but then when I click the down arrow to navigate to another folder, it takes an inordinate amount of time for it to open the drop down selection. Is there some setting with windows explorer that can be changed to mitigate?

by Guest lukesvinod- 2 replies

I have two user accounts in my PC, one is administrator and the other account operator which is having different user rights set from the administror tool --> local users. Rights are Users, Backupoperators,Power users, remote desktop users I can set my display settings to 1280 X 1024 in administrator account and it keeps the settings the next time I log in. But in operator account I change to 1280 X 1024 but after I log in after few seconds the display changes back to 1600 X 1200. So each time I have to change to 1280 X 1024 after I log in. When I changed operator account to administrator the display settings was kept to 1280 X 1024, the next time I …

Can't Minize open files anymore
by Guest Helpless- 1 reply

After upgrading XP Home Edition to XP Pro I can't minimize documents anymore. They just close. The taskbard, which also dissapeared, can only resurface if I place the language bar in it, in which case it shows with another taskbar right behind it, protruding only about a millimiter above the regular taskbar. Probably minimized documents get in between the two or that is just a second problem. ..reg files suggested by Elmo earlier did not correct the problem. Thanks

I am running Windows XP and IE 7 on my desktop. I have all the latest updates installed. I keep getting logged out of phpbb forums. I have Vista and IE7 on my laptop and it seems to work fine so it leads me to believe it is a setting possibly in XP. Does anyone know what setting in either XP or IE is causing me to get logged out of the PhpBb forums. It seems that sometimes it happens constantly and then there are days when it doesnt. I am a moderator on one of the forums and this is getting a little to much to bear. Maybe there is a patch or simple option to check? Thanks for your help
