I am posting this here as I am not sure whether it is a Windows XP problem, or a problem with NIS 2007 or Word 2002. I am currently using Norton Internet Security 2007 and have Microsoft Word 2002 and Works 7. I occasionally check the Log Viewer of Norton Internet Security and have noticed that I regularly get the following entires under the heading Symantec Resourse Protector>Alerts The entires are always the same, apart from the PID number and are as follows: <Date> <Time> Unauthorise Access Logged Event Details Actor: C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT OFFICE\OFFICE 10\WINWORD.EXE (PID=168 (different number on each occasion) Target: \…

win xp pro, screen resolution changes on restart

hi, this happens every couple cold starts. My resolution by default is 1024x768 and every so often, pretty often , i get bumped up to 2000xsomething. its quite a jump and i don't like it. I checked in msconfig, and nothing out of hte ordinary is running at startup, and i don't believe its any of the past system restore points i made mainly because I don't use that resolution ever. any thoughts as to why this keeps happening? its kind of annoying to have to keep reseting the screen resolution.

XP Pro reformat - language toolbar
by Guest denny- 3 replies

Hi all, I have just reinstalled XP and I'm having a couple of problems..minor to be sure, but aggravating nonetheless. It seems every time I install XP, I have a different set of these little quirks. This time, every time I reboot the language toolbar is enabled, and I don't know how to stop it. I'm sure it's in the registry somewhere, but I don't know where. I've had that problem other times with other toolbars, too. Why does this happen? Also, I have an identical computer in the next room, except for the sound card, and the ATI partner brand, and I somehow managed to get it to bypass the welcome screen and boot automatically for a single user, but I c…

One machine i have has a problem with windows explorer. When i try to select multiple files, it won't let me do it. I have tried clicking on the first file and then holding down the shift or control key and selecting, but not go. And this is not a setting on the drop down menus. I know this is some sort of registry key, but i am having trouble getting the correct answer. Has something to do with the bags key? How to i reset explorer to standard configuration to let me select multiple files? I went into GP edit and did not find anything specific there either. Bob

Help with a BAT file?
by Guest Hans Näslund- 1 reply

Sometimes it happens that the icon fore safe removal of hardware disappears from the task bar. The way to restore it is to run the following command by clicking on Start > Run...: "RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll" Now I would like to write a BAT file that does this, so I could simply click on an icon to restore the safe removal function. Would anybody like to help me with this?

Tempory Internet Files
by Guest stu- 5 replies

I'm new to WindowsXP, from Win98SE. I use Windows Explorer to manage my files and folders. When I try to access my TIF's, I can't expand my folder beyond "Temporary Internet Files". I know there are more folders beyond this, starting with Content.IE6, then a series of folders beyond that, but I can't get to them!?! I have my settings in Tools / Folder Options set to Show Hidden Files And Folders, but they're not there... Any ideas on how to access them? I tried to look at them through Internet Options, but with the same results. I'd really like to selectively remove just certain TIF's. Any help would be appreciated.

Also I have installed quite a bit of software in the last month and dont want to have to reinstall it all again. I ha…

Uninstall and Reinstall Windows XP
by Guest KF- 4 replies

I want to give my old computer away. It is an HP I got from Costco years back. I want to wipe the system before I do that. I have Wipe Drive and it says it will delete the operating system. How can I reinstall XP once this is done. I have looked for a Windows XP disk or something like that but there was no disk that came with the system. Any suggestions. I really appreciate it. KF
