2 problems: 1. I upgraded Home Edition to XP Professional. Then upgraded Office to 2003 and unless I use the language bar, the task bar goes away and cannot retrieve. 2. If I use the language bar, the taskbar shows up but programs cannot be minimized, they just close Any solution, please?

Symantec AntVirus Corporate Edition 10.1 Slow Printing
by Guest trip- 5 replies

Hello, I have 5 workstations running Windows XP/2000 and use ACCPAC (DOS based) to do their accounts. There is a "main" workstation with the same OS which is connected to a parallel printer (dot matrix), this printer is the shared and the other workstations print to this printer. The specifications of the machines range from 1 GHz - 3 GHz and RAM sits in at 256MB - 1GB. Before Symantec AV was installed if one of the workstations sent a document to be printed to the main workstation it would take about 1-2 seconds then it would spool and print, however after Symantec AV was installed on all the workstations it now takes 30-40 seconds to send the document …

Hi all. I have a Pioneer DVR 106 +-RW. Max rate is 16x (although I never go above 8 for compatibility reasons). Anyway, up until recently, I had no problems burning DVD (RW, R+, R-). I burnt a movie last evening onto a Sony DVD+R (rated a 16x, but I burnt at 8x). No errors and nothing reported but success. I cannot play the DVD on my system, but it works fine on three different DVD players in my house as well as two neighbors. The specific Windows XP errors starts as follow: "Windows cannot read from ... Perhaps it was recorded in a format incompatible..." I use Pinnacle for most of my work, but for burning DVD movies that need no editing (such a…

Can't Delete User Account
by Guest User- 2 replies

I have an account on my Windows XP Media Center Edition machine I want to delete. I launch the User Accounts control panel and follow all the prompts. When I click the final button to delete (after the "are you sure"s) the app just hangs, and eventually goes to "Not Responding". I can create and delete other accounts just fine. But this one existing account causes the User Accounts control panel to hang when I try to delete it. Any ideas? Thanks.

xp won't shut down
by Guest b_lwalker@hotmail.com- 2 replies

When I try to shut down, Windows will do a bit of thinking (after checking the Task Manager, it stops about 20 processes) then stops. It doesn't freeze, I don't get any error messages...I can keep on working as if nothing happened - except it won't shut down. The only way to turn it off is to press the power button. Has anyone encountered this before - and more importantly - know how to fix it? Cheers

by Guest Daniel Schaffer- 6 replies

Hi, My hard drive has in its WINNT folder about 30 files which take the form "$NTUninstallKBnnnnnn"$, where the "n"s are numbers. The oldest shows the date January, 2006 and the newest April, 2007. My computer works perfectly, running WinXP Pro, SP2. What I would like to know is if I can delete these files, or move them to an archive. It's just a question of cleaning up my C: drive. Many thanks in advance, Dan S

I am going to look at using either Retrospect or XP Backup to backup my software. Both backup to a Set that you need to run the XP Backup or Retrospect to get access to your files and folders. Is there a way to just do a copy and Move type of backup that you can do with the schedular? I would like to run it so I can put it on a DVD and take it with me without having to run the software to access to my files. Thanks, Tom

I am going to look at using either Retrospect or XP Backup to backup my software. Both can be scheduled. But if your computer is not on at the time it is scheduled for, it doesn't get done. Is there a way to tell the schedular that the backup needs to run if it is past that date and time it is supposed to be run that I need to run it or just run it when I start the machine? Thanks, Tom
