No Active Internet Connection Error Message
by Guest Jennifer- 4 replies

I have an older computer that I added XP to (Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2) and also have broadband internet connection. I am able to access the internet, but I have a few programs that I have downloaded (one is SmartMusic 10.0 for my daughter's band class) and when I try to run the program I get an error that says "an active internet connection is required". I have disabled the firewall but still no luck. My modem is connected to a linksys router. Any help would greatly be appreciated!!

"My Computer" takes ages to respond when clicking on C drive, then behaves normally

"My Computer" takes ages to respond when clicking on C drive, then behaves normally Hello, I've got a new problem in "My Computer" (the version you get when hitting <Microsoft-E> not the one on the Desktop). It has been working well for many months up until a couple of weeks ago, but now when I click on "Local Disk (C:)" (in the left pane) it just hangs for about two minutes, and then it returns with the contents of the drive, and response after that is back to good. I've run diagnostics on the C drive and it looks fine. I haven't made any hardware changes recently, and the only software ones I can think of are Windows updates. There are no probl…

Losing user profiles
by Guest oblivion78- 0 replies

We seem to be encountering an issue with a few of our clients where a user will log on to a Windows 2000 or Windows XP workstation and their workstation profile will be recreated. When reviewing the C:\Documents and Settings folder the user profiles will be as such: C:\Documents and Settings\USER <--- Original user profile C:\Documents and Settings\USER.DOMAIN <--- User profile after profile is lost Now, in every case, it is an Active Directory user account on Windows Server 2003. We've tried installing the registry hive cleanup service on Microsoft's recommendation to no avail. Also, we haven't been able to trace any event log entr…

Does anyone know how to do the following. While in Excel, I have a VB code to print a spread sheet and to give it a different header by adding 1 to it (e.g. 1, 2,3 ect). I have change the code to print to Adobe, but how can I send the job to command prompt and then save the file to a folder on my system or network folder? I have seen this be done, but I can find the person to set this up. Thanks

classic windows and fax

I seem to remember that you were able to bring up classic windows from 98se. I think it was in the system 32 folder. Does anyone know where to find it in XP or is it ever around any more. Also, when I update my system to XP Srv pk2, the fax consol was changed. Is there any way to get the old one back. I need to fax from my computer but it's a little difficult with XP.

paths
by Guest Dirk Bruere at NeoPax- 1 reply

I have a small problem. I want to tidy up a machine and part of that involves removing paths that XP has 'learned' during setup. For example, with the new h/w found wizard there is an option to browse for drivers. On the dropdown there is a list of previously used paths. How can I get rid of these? Where do they reside? thanks Dirk

Folder list on Windows Explorer
by Guest kevin- 1 reply

I know I've seen this question here before, but I can't find it now and I've forgotten how to fix this. I just reinstalled XP PRO SP2. When I display the My Docs folder in Windows Explorer, I have to hit the Folders button to display the Folders tree on the left side of the window. I've fixed this before, but I've lost the note and I can't find it here anymore. Don't laugh! Thanks,

Hello everyone. So my boss has Windows XP Pro on his laptop. He is connected to a domain and thus his clock gets synchronized with a time server. However, he wants to change the time on his clock to match the time on his watch. I know it would be easier to set his watch to the time of this laptop but hey... he is my boss and that's what he wants! :) Is there a way to prevent his laptop from checking with the time server and simply stick with the time he designates?
