enabling recycling bin for compact flash cards?
by Guest mad.scientist.jr@gmail.com- 5 replies

I have a compact flash card which has no icon for recycling bin in Explorer. I could swear I have seen other CF cards that do have a recycling bin. It has never really mattered in the past because I just use the cards to transfer files but I am curious - is this something that can be enabled when you first format the card? If so how?

Lost User Profile
by Guest virira- 2 replies

Good day In trying to join a Windows XP SP2 HP laptop (with a different domain name) to my domain (Windows Server 2003 SP1), I just went straight to the My Computer, Right-clicked and changed its previous domain name to my current one. I had hoped to keep this user's profile when the laptop now connects to my current domain. But alas, I ended up failing to login. Now the user can no longer access his profile. As a temporary solution, I used the administrator account on the laptop to log into the system and then created a new user account which authenticates to my current domain. Then I had to copy his old documents and e-mail folder and restored th…

Windows XP very slow
by Guest Baz- 3 replies

Hi, I've finally gotten around to upgrading(?) my trusty Win 2000 box to Win XP Pro SP2 (upgraded to Win XP with SP1, then installed SP2). The system was incredibly slow while it was briefly running SP1, but I pressed on with the SP2 install in the hope that things would improve. They haven't. I've never seen such a slow Windows install: I can make a cup of coffee while it's painting a window! Observing what's occurring in the Task Manager, I see that various processes are clattering away using significant amounts of CPU, even when nothing is happening. The worst offender is explorer.exe, but various others are each consistently gobbling a few pe…

vpn issue

I'm having a problem with the VPN connection on my PC. I'm running XP-Pro and I am connected to the internet via my home lan, to a cable router. I have also recently installed a new network connection to my workplace using a VPN. Clearly I go over the same physical lan connection to my router. My problem is this. Whenever I come out of hibernation, e.g. I put the PC into sleep mode when I leave the room for an extended period, when I take it out of sleep mode, the VPN connection dialogue box comes up if I fire up IE or Outlook Express. I still connect via my router to ISP but the dialogue box continues to appear when I navigate between pages. The only …

Once you have used RD to logon to a computer the IP address can be viewed by anyone who gets access to your desktop. Is there a way to not have these addresses remain in the LogOn settings screen of remote desktop. Also is there a way to clear all "history" from this screen? Just curious. I find a HowTo Microsoft whith the possible solution for the question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312169/en-us Its possible that RD dont keep these settings? IP or hostname. Getting Logged out of PhpBB with XP & IE7
by Guest Southern Wolf- 1 reply

I am running Windows XP and IE 7 on my desktop. I have all the latest updates installed. I keep getting logged out of PhpBB forums. I have Vista and IE7 on my laptop and it seems to work fine so it leads me to believe it is a setting possibly in XP. Does anyone know what setting in either XP or IE is causing me to get logged out of the PhpBB forums. It seems that sometimes it happens constantly and then there are days when it doesnt. I am a moderator on one of the forums and this is getting a little to much to bear. Maybe there is a patch or simple option to check? Thanks for your help

Question about Windows Vista
by Guest topaiva- 6 replies

Sorry, I've not found a group about Windows Vista. When I try to install some software like "Emule", Windows Vista prompts me to send two SMS to a specific number with a specific message. It is retourned a code to alow the instalation of that software. That code is valid for any reinstalation of the same software. Can anyone tell me why this is so? What is the purpose of this code? Can I get somewhere a software to retrieve these codes without sending SMS? Thanks in advance.

Display Resolution
by Guest TXISR- 1 reply

I normally run my resolution at 800 X 600 pixels, but when I click on ANY Word Documents, the resolution automatically changes to 640 X 480 and totally screws up the whole screen. When I get out of the documents, sometimes it will automatically change back to the original resolution, but other times I have to take the time to go into the Control Panel and make the adjustments. Why does it do this and what do I need to do to fix it so it will quit happening?
