When I open one folder, View>Toolbars>Standard Buttons is checked. When I open another folder, View>Toolbars>Standard Buttons is also checked. When I change one of the folders to View>Toolbars>Standard Buttons Unchecked, the other folder gets changed the same way. How do I prevent this action? I want one folder one way, and the other folder another way. Thanks...

Not able to repair Windows XP
by Guest no-account- 10 replies

I've got a neighbors Compaq Presario 6029 here that just plain refuses to let me repair it. Originally, it would get to a DOS window on boot up that give the choice of Safe Mode or Starting in Normal Mode and a couple of other choices, but no matter which one you picked it would sit there for about four or five minutes and then go to sleep (using his monitor). Help! I'm at a loss to explain it. I was thinking the power supply, but it is to predictable, not random enough for that to be the likely reason, right? I put the Compaq Operating System CD into the drive and go through the repair process just fine until it gets to the "Installing Devices" window …

Is it possible to block google text ads? I've disallowed pagead2.googlesyndication.com on my router, in my browser and furthermore in my hosts file, yet the ads are STILL getting through. If anyone has any pointers as to how I could achieve this, I'd be most grateful indeed. Many thanks Colin

drwtsn32.exe closing Adobe 8.0 standard on startup
by Guest TMMiller- 1 reply

I'm running Windows XP Service pack 2 on a domain environment. I've installed Adobe 8.0 Standard on a domain account and when I go to run the application, it flashes the start-up screen and then disappears. The process is not running in the background and I've completely un-installed and re-installed. I've tried it on 2 domain accounts and the local administrator. It does the same thing for each account. I ran File-mon to see what was being accessed and found that when Adobe is started, drwtsn32.exe immediately executes a CLOSE function on the application. I'm at a loss and appreciate any help!

by Guest Jeff- 1 reply

Hey I have 2 computers (pcA and pcB) in my network at home. pcA has winXP sp2 pcB has Windows Server 2003 Enterprise (180-days evaluation) These computers can ping each other using their IP addresses, but they cannot ping using computer names... I'm currently about to set up the LMHOSTS file on pcA... do I need to create a LMHOST file on pcB also ?? And lets say a large network with thousands of computers, maybe in several countries, would LMHOSTS still be used in every computer or would it be done in a different way (i doubt it would, because it would be hard to maintain) ?? I ask because I want to learn Jeff

Suggestion For Microsoft
by Guest cattleman- 10 replies

I may have missed it somewhere, but is there a way to order the threads returned by a search in "DATE" order? It would seem to be much more helpful to review newer ones first. Instead of finding a solution and trying it only to find out that it is no good because it only applied prior to SP2 and you now have SP2 installed seems to waste a lot of time. I suggest another dropdown box to allow ordering threads by Date or Alphabetical at least. Cattleman

Device drivers will not install with proper INF with correct VID/P
by Guest anon0918- 15 replies

We are trying install an x-ray sensor. The drivers install fine on several different Windows XP Pro machines, but on the one where we need to install it, Windows doesn't even recognize the inf as containing information on the device. The XP Pro machine in question is primarily used for software development and has had a ton of drivers installed on it previously. I've tried placing the exact INF into C:\Windows\INF and confirmed that no other INF contains that hardware's VID/PID. I've tried deleting the INFCACHE.1 files in every directory on the computer, so that Windows has to recreate the inf cache, including our INF from C:\Windows\INF. I've confirme…
