Windows goes into reboot loop after installing SP2
by Guest John- 5 replies

Hi I have just installed XP Pro onto a basic workstation and it loaded ok. However, after I installed SP2, the pc goes into a constant reboot and the only way out of it, is to boot to safe mode, uninstall SP2 and then it works again. I need to get the system upgraded so any suggestions would be appreciated. -- Thanks John

error message 'operating system missing'
by Guest granjan- 5 replies

I am trying to find information for my nephew. He has an HP xt973 with XP Home installed. When he tried to boot up today he got a black screen with the 'operating system missing'. I'm not sure if he has the recovery disks that should have come with the computer...I forgot to ask him but I will tomorrow. In the meantime is there some advice you can give me so that I can help him? Can I download a bootable disk to start it with? If so where is the best place to do so? Any info appreciated. Janice

Computer Shuts down by itself
by Guest Karen Prentice- 3 replies

My computer likes to do a controlled shut down and reboot all by itself. I think I have found the problem but I cannot fix it. I have been on the phone with Microsoft for the past four days getting nowhere. They have had me reregister DLL files, clear my prefech temp files, install Update KB893803v2, and a lot of other things. Nothing has worked. Each time the computer shuts down I get the following information in my WindowsUpdate.log file: Misc =======Logging initialized (build: 7.0.6000.374, tz: -0400)===== Misc =Process:\??\C:WINDOWS\System32\winlogon.exe Misc =Module: C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuaueng.dll Shutdown FATAL:WUAutoUpdateAtShutdown faile…

I've searched this extensively and unfortunately found nothing :( I would like to completely remove Windows XP Home Edition from my computer, but do so in such a way that if I ever install it again on a separate computer, I won't be nagged by the Windows Genuine Advantage tool. And please don't hate me for using Ubuntu.

E-Mail
by Guest Barbara- 4 replies

I recently changed servers and am having problems forwarding e-mail with embedded pictures, etc. I was using a cable server and Outlook Express for e-mail. Now I am using AT&T as a server and also using the AT&T Yahoo e-mail. When I receive an e-mail with pictures, etc. in the message when I forward it there is a white square with a red X in the upper left hand corner where the pictures should be. I have tried to copy and paste the entire e-mail but the pictures still do not appear. Would appreciate any input as to how this can be corrected and the problem solved. Thank you! -- Barbara

I recently purchased a used laptop that already had xp installed. The computer worked great but it had no disk with it. The key code for xp is on the sticker. But then it crashed or will not load. I cannot get in there to make a recovery inside due to people we bought it from did give up the administrator password so i cannot access the bios. Since my keyed oem software that is on the pc make it possibe to order disk recovery or to get a boot disk. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can get it to the point of loading but then it stops and goes to black screen with curser in left corner blinking and i did get a unmountable disk error but cannot…

Multiple Instances of Picture and Fax Viewer
by Guest Jack Gillis- 5 replies

I often have several GIF files on my desktop and would like to be able to see certain of them opened in separate instances of Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. When I open the first one and then the second, third and so on they appear in the same Picture and Fax Viewer window. I can cycle through them of course but I really need to have them in view at the same time. Is there a way to do this? Thank you.

making a copy of my System?
by Guest RBB- 2 replies

I have just done as I was instructed ... converted my HD from Fat 32 to NTFS. Now I ask ... How can I make a copy of my system now .... with all the up-date included so If I ever have to Format and re-load, I will have at least have the updates as of today. It takes so long re-loading and getting all of the up-dates! I would like to make a bootable CD or DVD for emergency purposed. How do I accomplish that? Thanks for you knowledge and patience.
