hal.dll missing or corrupt

I recently installed Linux Mandriva in my WinXP m/c. My m/c. already had 2 Linux partitions along with a Linux Swap partition (apart from the Windows partitions) but when I was trying to install Linux Mandriva in the 2 Linux partitions, due to some reasons, Linux refused to install in my hard disk (I want the dual boot option of Linux & WinXP in my m/c). Ultimately I installed Linux in the Windows partition by resizing the Windows partition (C: drive). Linux got installed successfully but WinXP got corrupt in the process (I am using the Linux GRUB bootloader to boot my m/c). Now when I boot my m/c, it gives me dual boot option of Linux & WinXP but when…

Windows Installer
by Guest Panic- 1 reply

My brother says every time to boots up he get a Windows Installer window that he can only close using End Task procedures. Anyone have a idea why he keeps getting that option. I had him confirm he doesn't have his Win XP CD loaded. I searched Help for Windows Installer and one of the options to make changes was using msiexec /i at the command line. I asked him to check for that command in Start... msconfig....Start Up and uncheck it if it showed there. Any other ideas?

I'm confused. I know nothing about programming, SQL, XML, VB6.0, VB.NET, etc. I want to create a simple database for a project. Then, I want to be able to sort classmates with physical attributes like gender, skin color, hair color, eye color, height, weight, etc. Then I want to interrogate that database with parameters like: Show me all men taller than 5'7", with brown hair; Show me all woman with blue eyes and blond hair; etc... I want an application in wich I can easily add new profiles. Does such a program exist, if not, How can I create it. I repeat, I know nothing in programming so don't use any abreviations. Would access 2007 be useful? …

Hello, No Internet Dilemma! Ive been trying to help my friend out for the last couple of nights with his new home networking setup. All he wants is to connect to the internet via his laptop over wireless while having his home desktop PC hooked up to the cable modem. Windows xp pro Cd question
by Guest Greg Rozelle- 6 replies
I went to a business that was throwing out a lot of old stuff, CD, computer that were torn up, e.t.c. One of those CD has Windows xp pro on it. My questions. How do I determine what type of license it has on the cd without installing? Retail, upgrade, oem, or Volume license or other type. Also, I do not want to conflict with another person that may have the same key. I am pretty sure windows genuine advantage checks and make sure people do not have duplicate keys (except maybe for volume licenses) Greg Rozelle ========Signature Line========= http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?certegy

"Interestingly, the trojan disables a number of security utilities, such as F-Secure's Blacklight rootkit detector and the ZoneAlarm firewall. Manual removal procedure: 1. Reboot Windows into Safe Mode (not Safe Mode with Networking!) 2. Delete the following files: C:\Windows\spooldr.exe and C:\Windows \system32\drivers\spooldr.sys 3. Reboot Windows into normal mode 4. Go to Start -> Run..., type sfc.exe /scannow and click OK 5. When prompted, insert your Windows CD to restore the corrupted tcpip.sys" <http://blog.misec.net/tag/rootkits/> How is this file hidden? The registry is corrupted so that files are invisible? It can…

Clipboard question
by Guest PT- 3 replies

WinXP Home I've installed the clipboard viewer but I'm not sure how to use it. Certain programs automatically transfer content to the clipboard. For example when I highlight text in Word or other programs and click "Copy", the material is immediately visible in the clipboard viewer. But although I can view the material, I don't seem to be able to access it. More specifically, I looked at a You-Tube video whose link I wanted to copy. The website in which it was displayed only gave me the option to copy the link to the clipboard, which I did. But I'd like to copy that web address elsewhere, and can't find the command to do so. Please advise -- …
