by Guest philaphan80@yahoo.com- 3 replies

Problem: Page down and scrolling operations within Windows Explorer on Windows XP cause Explorer to hang while browsing network folders with large amounts of files (in this case, over 13,000). Environment: Windows XP Pro SP2 on a large (work) network which is otherwise very fast, if not instant. To Replicate: Create a folder on Windows XP (either locally or on a network drive) with 13,000 files, each 0 bytes with an ".html" extension. Browse via Windows Explorer and choose Details or List view. * First assumed the root problem was icon rendering since it took so long to draw them. * Increased the icon cache with no luck. Later determined it to be w…

Here's one for you. When you put in a data CD or DVD, the system looks at the disc and normally gives you a list of options so that you can choose what you want the computer to do. Some dork checked the box that says "always do this option". How do I UNDO this so that computer will continue to ask me what I want it to do? You would think it would be easy to locate a contol for this ....but I'm tearing my hair out looking! Any suggestions?

Hi, I'm trying to use my XP laptop to format a drive with FAT32 so it will be compatible with an Intel Mac. But when I right-click the drive and choose 'Format', NTFS is the only choice there, like a default. Is there something I'm missing? How can I get it to format with FAT32? I appreciate any assistance on this,....Frank B.

Inventory of Offline Files
by Guest Klecker- 0 replies

Is there a utility that will export for me a list of all the folders and files my client has chosen to "Make available offline"? When a new profile needs to be created from scratch, I must again make available these offline folder and files. What I have been doing is mapping the root of the offline folder, going offline and from a command prompt exporting a dir /s to a log file; very time consuming. Anyone have a more time efficient manner of doing this? Thanks, -- Ken

I’m having two problems with Windows that I have tried everything to resolve short of rebuilding the system. I have been told that these problems may be related. So far I have tried the following without success: • Searching the Microsoft web sites • Running several repair utilities • Copying the “.exe” files from another XP machine with the same build • Asking colleagues at work who are responsible for maintaining the PCs The problems are: A. My Desktop PC is experiencing several “Rundll” exception errors. The three functions where this has occurred so far are (that I have noticed): 1. Clicking the “Safely Remove Hardware…

Hi, Has anyone tried WinuxPC's Vista XP? It is a cosmetic XP app that gives XP the look of Vista. It includes Vista-like aero-glass and icons. It also includes a firewall and anti-virus. It is tempting because I do like the aesthetics of Vista. Cost is $31.98 (including shipping) on e-bay. Thanks, Gary
