How to detect if a file has already been indexed by the index serv
by Guest V. Arun Kumar Patro- 0 replies

When I copy a file (e.g. 21025891.txt) to scope path of the Catalog and run the following code immediately after that, index server did not provide me any result. However, after few minutes the same code returned me the desired results. Dim odbSearch As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection, _ cmdSearch As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand, _ rdrSearch As System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataReader odbSearch.ConnectionString = "Provider=""MSIDXS"";Data Source=""CSCatalog"";" cmdSearch.Connection = odbSearch cmdSearch.CommandText = "select fileName, directory from scope() where filename='21025891.txt' and Contains('(""Note"") & (""fina…

by Guest Guest- 1 reply

A guy posted this solution to the problem of upgrades not installling .. ... .. Here's a possible fix: First, let me tell ya that I've tried all those patches and hints and tricks from Microsoft. None of them worked. I got this from a different forum but I forgot which one. 1) download freeware CCLEANER. You'll have to Google it uz I don't have the address handy. Download CCLEANER. Reboot and when computer starts up again, press F8 and go into the safe mode. In safe mode, run CCLEANER. Run Issues. Also use tools to uninstall any programs that you might think are causing problems. After using CCLEANER to get rid of files that may be interfering with do…

Problems recognizing USB devices in Media Player 11
by Guest Jim Helfer- 2 replies

My boss is having a strange problem with getting Windows Media Player 11 to recognize his USB mp3 players. "We then did all upgrade/patches, including letting it install Window Media Player 11, which I think I generally like. Last week, we tried to connect her iRiver T10 and a new SanDisk Sansa e280. In both cases, when you plug it into a USB2.0 port (only works on the ones on the rear of the PC), it tries to install the device and fails. It just shows "Found New Hardware MTP Device" If you look in device mgr, it has the yellow ! and just keeps trying to reinstall it. Once or twice it has flashed the correct device name, but then immediately jumps…

FTP with MIE6
by Guest Trevor- 5 replies

I'm finding the only way I can FTP files to my webspace is to switch windows firewall off. I guessed there must be a way round this and found a place to add an ftp site to the firewall settings and I think this worked once, but now can only do it with firewall off again. I have another PC at home in England (I'm in France) that works fine without switching the firewall off, so there must be a way?

by Guest Doug- 0 replies

The PC user is set a scomputer administrator but cannot execue any program. The message says no permission. Explorer lets me see the program on the C: drive, but it will not execute. The message is that windows cannot run. I've done a full spyware and virus check but found nothing. In Safe mode, Administrator can execute. Creating a new user with admin privileges, then reboot in normal mode, that user cannot execute any program either. What do I look for? -- Doug

Why do I have blue files? They are not compressed, I checked firs
by Guest dkstockstill- 10 replies
I'm fairly sure I have some type of virus because the files didn't change color until I was looking at and throwing out old floppies. I checked the folder and the compression option is not checked. My virus software said that it caught and cleaned the file, but ever since then files turn blue. If you rename them, they stay black for a little while. I have McAfee and it says my drive is clean. I also have disappearing windows components. I had to reinstall outlook express yesterday. What on earth should I do? -- That''s what I said!

Screen freeze at start up
by Guest gerard- 5 replies
I have had screen freeze up problems for a few weeks. I tried to use some of the solutions in earlier exchanges I saw on this site (e.g., delete damaged programs and cached files) but the problem persists. I now can log on using "last best known configuration" but, even then, only after a couple of freeze up instances. I can only stop these by turning off the power at the power strip switch and turn on the system in "last best known configuration" mode. The problem now seems to be confined to trying to open windows while, earlier, it could happen anytime. Any help would be appreciated. Gerard

Windows XP Activation Pending?
by Guest Chuck T- 2 replies

I have just discovered on a Dell Dimension 8250 I bought used about a year ago in a system information listing, under "Activation Status" the statement "Activation Pending (30 days remaining)". There is no Windows Activation icon in the system tray, and in System Tools there is no "Activate Windows" button, icon, or option. How can I determine if this Windows XP is activated or not, and if not how do I activate it, and if so, why is that "Activation Pending..." statement there? The version is 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600. -- Chuck T

how to get rid of installer
by Guest JClark- 5 replies

Hello Group: My new laptop (Sony) came with a trial version of MS Office 2007. I didn't want it, so I uninstalled it and installed a newly purchased version of MS Office Small Business 2003. Now when I open Outlook (2003), I get a message from the Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007, presumably the installer, telling me that the feature I am trying to use is on a network source that is unavailable. On line search provides detailed steps for getting rid of the installer for the 2007 Beta, but not precisely for my current situation, with a different version rather than a a beta. Apologies if this is posted to the wrong group, and I'll be happy to look …
