by Guest Dennis- 1 reply

I had a bad shut down and when I came back up, most of the icons have lost their images. I tried a couple of the fixes I saw in earlier posts, but nothing seems to help. I had high hopes for dougknox's regedit, but still nothing. Is there anything anyone else can think of? Thanks, Dennis

Pointsec protected partition lost after installed Linux
by Guest Leo.Hou- 1 reply

I used to have one Windos XP partition and it's protected by pointsec. I created a new partition with help of partition magic and installed Ubuntu in it. The usual way of modifying grub to add a (hd0,0) menu item doesn't work. it seems grub overwrote whatever pointsec has in MBR. I want to get back the 1st partition. Could any body help? I did a lot of search over internet and somebody said I can boot with a windows XP disc and use the rescue console to run fixmbr and fixboot. First of all, I don't have a XP disc at the moment. Secondly, I want to make sure I am not making things any worse before I purchase an extra windows XP copy. Can anyone give me any ad…

creating a windows XP boot CDROM without a floppy drive
by Guest Amandla- 2 replies

I'm trying to get my apple mac to work as a dual boot machine. I'm getting stuck at the step where I need a bootable windows XP cdrom. I've managed to slipstream service pack 2 with XP into a directory. However getting this to a bootable CDROM is proving difficult. I've got a PC, and HP omnibook, actually, with XP running, however I discover that, not having been used for a couple of years, the floppy drive doesn't work. So I can't format a floppy with as a bootable floppy in order to copy the boot sectors from it. I've got Nero and I've tried to install a CDROM using its alterantive option - but that just boots up in DRDOS and I can't seem to get windows t…

BSOD trying to boot into Safe Mode
by Guest Retired Navy- 2 replies

Dear Sirs/Mams I run Eset's Nod32 Anti-Virus. When I scan anything now, it reports: "Error occurred while scanning MBR sector of the 3. physical disk. Error reading sector." That's why I ran CHKDSK (CHKDSK LOG post above). The only problem I'm having is, I can't get into Safe Mode. It boots into XP and SE fine with no running problems When I try to boot to Safe Mode I get a blue screen, with "Stop 0x0000007B", which I found is INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE No virus shows up from running Nod32, Ad-aware 2007, Spybot, Bazooka Scanner or Blacklight. I also ran F-Prot for DOS from DOS in Win98SE. Any ideas on how to get her to boot into Safe Mode ? T…
