Manual update of internet time
by Guest Gr11zzly- 3 replies

Since my last XP update I am unable to manually update/synchronize Internet time. I get the message " An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with time.nist.gov" This is regardless of the server selected. I have the same problem on my laptop. After startup the INTERNET TIME tab on the clock shows that there had been a successful synchronization at power on. From this I assume NTP and the firewall are OK. Any suggestions?

Search feature isn't working in WinXP SP2
by Guest Anthony Smith- 3 replies
Good Afternoon, I just recently created a new user on this XP machine. It has/had other existing user accounts. Well for some reason search isn't work. This user is set up as an administrator. What happens when I click Start Menu | Search It appears to open up Windows explorer and all I see is the little Dog wagging his tail in the Search Companion dialog box. But nothing else is displayed in that box. I don't have any options to search for any files. Not sure what is happening. If I log off this user and log on with a different user, Search works fine. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks! Sincerely, Anthony Smith In God We Trust!

GMAIL, IE & default email client
by Guest diane in seattle- 1 reply

I use Gmail & love it. I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser. So I don't use any Microsoft products for either of these tasks. It used to be, when I was brows- ing, if I clicked on a mailto link, a new tab would open with a blank Gmail compose box, & the email address of the link I'd clicked. I'd type my message in that Gmail box & send it off. A while back, when I did this, nothing happened for about 15 seconds. Then suddenly, 58 Internet Explorer blank windows would pop up & cascade all over my screen. I get a message to the effect that the default mail client is not installed. It doesn't happen on every web- site; in fact, I …

XP Pro SR2 et al, was re-installed (clean install) with MS Tech help. I was left with several important components missing. Now the video driver is missing, too. Why does this happen? And, how does one find these things w/o getting other companies to help out? Sheesh, this has been a nightmare. thank you.

Cannot install SP2 without making system unstartable, black screen
by Guest HappyGuy- 7 replies

Dear all, I have recently had to reinstall Windows XP. I had Windows XP + SP2 installed on the system but because of a loss of motherboard USB function thought I would try doing an in-place repair of Windows XP. I tried this in two ways: 1. I have slipstreamed Windows XP + SP2 CD I created and have used with great success on other computers. However, when I used this, I always ended up booting to a black unresponsive screen after seeing the 'Windows XP' logo; moreover, safe mode would not work either. 2. Subsequently, I used my original WIndows XP SP1 OEM CD to help me do an in-place repair which would allow me to log into Windows + safe mode + …

3 Beeps and computer won't turn on?
by Guest Tony- 8 replies
I re-installed Xp on a new hard drive about a month ago. Just last nite while surfing the net. The screen on my monitor went screwy. And shut off. I then hear 3 beeps about a second apart. Is this a operating system issue? I have an e-machines computer I bought 2 years ago. At first I thought it maybe a hardware issue. So I opened up the case. Reseated the memory, disconnected everything and spray dusted everything I could. But nothing has fixed the problem. Any thoughts and directions are appreciated.
