I have my computer set to receive automatic updates from micosoft. I request that these are loaded on shutdown. Some of my recent updates do not appear to want to load properly and each time I now close down I keep getting asked to load these. Each time they do not appear to load. This morning (here in UK) my PC running on XP SP2 said updates were ready to install and recommended I should install them which I did. On reboot I started getting lots errors and problems. I have managed to start in safe Mode and restore to system status as of 2 days ago (13 August), on restart (now working ok) the following report was generated and may give a clue as to what caused error? This morning, I found a substantial group of Windows XP, Media, and Explorer updates indicated as needing download in the tray. I duly ran these. Immediately after rebooting, my machine (a Dell Dimension 5150) became unstable. Upon booting into my desktop, an error message appeared indicating that there was an error in the Windows Genuine Advantage Module. More distressingly, I was from then on unable to run *any* programs. I went into safe mode and rolled back the system 24 hours. I restarted and my machine ran in a stable fashion. I have a downloaded Windows Update file that isn't installed yet. I don't want to install this update and never will, but since it's already downloaded it's just taking up space on my C: drive. Is there a way to locate it and get rid of it?
