(Be exact.) What *is* this *.img file supposed to be? What does it say to do with it from where you got it? Assuming you downloaded a CD/DVD image, you might try this freeware (assuming you do not have a CD/DVD burning application that can take that CD/DVD image and burn it to the proper media for you): http://www.imgburn.com/ -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-ques…

Using Windows XP SP2 and I am trying to get drive letters for temporary devices like a DVD burner and flash drive to show up in MY COMPUTER when they are present in the system. An external portable drive shows at drive "E" with no problems. Can you tell me what I need to do to get the additional letters to show? Thanks for anyone's help. I mistakenly posted this to the Media Center Edition earlier. I hope I didn't cause too much trouble. Jim -- JD

Volume Label Names Forbidden?
by Guest Sparkybill- 1 reply

I just got through reinstalling XP because of lack of space on my C partition, so I reinstalled most programs on the D drive. In Windows Explorer this resulted in some confusion (to me) of volume labels so I renamed the C drive "Operating System" (which seems to be acceptable to the computer); but I also renamed the D drive "Programs 1". After closing My Computer, I have been unable to find the D drive again, either in My Computer or in Computer Management. I assume my choice of label was a no-no. Is there any way to recover the D partition (drive) short of reinstalling XP? -- Sparkybill

Undeletable Files
by Guest kramer.newsreader@gmail.com- 2 replies

Hi All, I recently download some mp3s. I moved them to a different directory and tried to play them. They didn't play, so supposing that the were corrupted, I tried to delete them, but got an access denied error message. I closed all my apps and tried to delete them again. Same thing. So then I thought that there was an error in the file system, so I scheduled chkdsk to run and rebooted. It said that it was recovering lost files but gave no more info, but those files still don't work and still can't be deleted. Any ideas how I can clean up my file system?

Administrator privilages
by Guest Panic- 5 replies

My friend got a computer from his daughter which had belonged to her boyfriend. He has an attack program he can't get rid of. I tried some "stuff" to help him but he is set up to boot up in his own identity which doesn't have Administrator privileges. When I tried to switch to Administrator it wanted a password and he doesn't have it. His daughter is on the outs with her boyfriend and they're not speaking so getting the password is "difficult". He also did not get the Win XP installation CD that was used to load his system. Can another XP CD be used? I know a lot depends on whether it's an OEM or retail purchased operating system. Any ideas that…

Cant log on. Missing domain? Home edition!?!
by Guest Norm Loman- 4 replies

Hello. Im using Windows XP home edition and I can't seem to log in to windows. My computer boots up fine and I am able to reach the blue log in screen. When I log in, however, I am given this error message: "The system can not log you on now because the domain "D3LSPT71" is not available." This seems rather strange. My computer was working just fine yesterday, and I didn't change any settings. But what's stranger is, I have never heard of this domain "d3lspt71". I'm not even on a network. It's just a personal laptop. Besides that, I'm using Home Edition. I thought that Home Edition couldn't access domains like that, because Home Edition's networking features…

What would cause a file I'm saving give me a message, "Windows cannot save the file because..." (the window is not large enough to read the rest of the sentence). If I do Save As... I travel to the directory and the file is no longer listed where it usually is, but is replaced by a .tmp file of the same size. Because the little Save As window that travels with the document has the correct name, I can save, but only via Save As. Can this be corrected somehow? dsg

When I run either ITunes or Printshop v20 my HP 2610 all-in-one printer goes nuts. All the panel lights flash and it becomes unusable until I remove the power cord and plug it back in. The same thing happens when I run the software from my HP notebook and my desktop computer. The printer is connected to both computers via a wired network. I have tried changing the network address for the printer numerous times without result. Anyone have any suggestions???? Thanks!
