I have a laptop that I backup to a PC hard drive. When using the PC and trying to open the backup on the PC the laptop backups are not listed as the log files are on the laptop. How do I change the location of the laptop backup log files so they are stored with the backup on the PC? -- Thank you, Colin.

Cannot open folders in the same window
by Guest AJ- 1 reply

OK, now I know this sounds simple, but this one isn't. I tried the normal things like selecting the use same window option and I went to file type and selected option explore under File Folder and Folder, and that didn't fix. I replaced the explorer key in the HKR\Folders \Shell from a working PC. Any other ideas?

Audio problem, lagging and jumpy
by Guest Charlie- 1 reply

I am having an audio problem of the same nature on 2 different systems. After installing a fresh copy on XP SP2 on one system and MCE 2005 on another system, and after installing all programs and apps, I do a reboot and hear at the "Windows is shutting down" screen an audio chime that lags and studders. I log back in and at the "Welcome" screen a chime is fine. I play a music file from either WMP 11 or iTunes and the audio will intermittingly studder and at times drag and stretch (best description). I have all updated BIOS setting and audio drivers from the manufacturer, and not from Windows Update. I tried a driver roll back with no luck. System Res…

blank cd-r, cd-rw, dvd-r, and dvd-rw unrecognizable in drive
by Guest deb47- 0 replies

All of a sudden my pc won't recognize a blank cd or dvd, yet it will recognize a software cd or any that I've already recorded on. Light will blink as if it's trying to read it, then quits. My pc actually read a blank cd today and let me burn photos on it, first time in a month, put another cd in, and nothing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled cd drive, I've done everything listed on Troubleshooting Reading CD discs. I recovered my pc, but not to factory condition, just to point of uninstalling all non-factory-installed software programs. I've also tried different brands and speeds of the cds with no luck. Any suggestions?

Cannot boot up - how to reinstall
by Guest ge- 9 replies

I have a Fujitsu laptop with preloaded XP home edition, I also have a partition dump image of the C drive in another 2.5" drive. File system is NTFS. Due to unknown reason, my boot sector in my Laptop was wiped, the drive is now shown as unformated (the NTFS indicator was wiped) therefore the drive cannot boot up. I tried to use my backup drive, but cannot boot up either, the symptom is that after Windows XP home sign is displayed and the moving bar is displayed for about 5 seconds, the screen turned black (no curser), the disk active display on my laptop lighted for a second and then everything stays as is (dark, no disk activity) for hours. There i…

XP Home upgrade to XP Pro - Problems...
by Guest Colin A- 2 replies

Wonder if any other forum users have come across this one... I have just upgraded a couple of my customers networks... In the process of doing the installs, I have had to upgrade 3-4 differnet machines that had XP Home on to XP Pro... All the machines with XP Home on were working without problems and fully upgraded to the very latest Windows service packs and Updates... I managed to get a good price on the XP Pro so I brought FULL (with XP2, latest version) copies to do the upgrade with... I ran the wizzard at startup which checked and downloaded any bits that were needed prior to the upgrade and all checked out and worked fine... Following the up…

security log full - cannot log in
by Guest alice- 1 reply

I've got a situation with a PC where the log on screen says the security log is full and only the admnistrator can fix this. I try to log on as administrator, and it tells me your account has been disabled, please see your administrator. I'm guessing that what needs to happen is the security log simply needs to be cleared out, and the settings set to delete old entries as new ones come in, but I need to be able to get into the OS to do this. Is there some way to make a floppy that boots to a DOS prompt, and then a way to get to the log file and clear it out manually? And if so, does anyone know what file I'd be looking for?

Hi there, Since Thursday 26th July, every time I restart my computer, XP reverts to the restore point dated 26th July. I also lose any emails in Outlook since that date, and any AVG and Spyware scan updates are also lost. Also any database work was being lost until I moved the database onto a different drive. This one has really got me stumped. Regards John

Network Diagnostics - Losing Net Connection

Brian A. I believe I have a similar problem to Ravix. Whilst browsing trouble free I will loose conectivity. I use the Windows diagnostic tool to determine the problem. The problem is fixed but occurs every 15 mins or so. Your previous explanation to Ravix was a bit too tricky to understand. Appreciate any assistance you can provide. Thanks Prangie

My battery went dead on my lap top. When I went to turn it back on after charging it, it came up telling me that I didnt shut down properly. So I had an option to boot back up in safe mode. I did, however when the 20 or 30 seconds went by, it appeared it was starting back up, but it keeps coming back up with same options as before. I have tried to start back up with all options. My laptop will not get pass that point. Can anyone help me out with this issue. I didnt download anything. My laptop was up to date with everything, and nortons had did its scheldule scan, no virus' or problems where reported. Thank you, FoxieBrown
