Uninstalling A downladed version of a beta product
by Guest Robert Armstrong- 3 replies

Some time ago I downloaded a beta version of Micosoft Office Visio Professional 2007 (Beta) [Version 12.0.4017.1006] I did nothing with it, but recently Windows wanted to validate the authenticity of my software for some reason. Everything was OK except for this beta program, so I decided to uninstall it. When I did I got the following error message : Setup Error Setup cannot find the required setup controller file. Either there was a network error, an error reading from the CD, DVD, or other installation media,or a problem with the package you downladed. Any suggestions what to do? -- Robert from Accrington

Hi All, I am using MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP.4.0 (MSXML4.DLL v4.20.9841.0) in "classic" ASP to Post a request from one IIS web site to another. The sites are located on the same server. There are times when my XMLHTTP.send() command (and sometimes other commands) fails with the error: "This method cannot be called after the send method has been called". The error is caught in the JScript code's "catch" block. I have a JS file that contains the object declaration and the code that uses it. This object/code is then used by a number of different pages and processes. The order of steps in the code are: //------------------------------------------ // Defin…

XP media ceneter network ping problem
by Guest Bob Urz- 0 replies

I am still fighting this HP ZV8000 laptop on some networking issues. I had tried to hook it up to a router to make a simple network. I could not get the machines to talk to each other. As a test, i got rid of the router and did a simple peer to peer network using a crossover cable. On the laptop now, i can ping the other machines IP. I cannot ping the laptop from the desktop. I set them both up staic IP 192.168.1.(200,201). If i do a local loopback test on the laptop (127.0.0.1), it pings ok. If i try to ping the IP of the laptop on the laptop, it times out. Windows firewall is off. No other firewall is on the machine. As a test, i hooked a USB network…

Help!: Windows Update ID's my pc as a Mac!
by Guest Menta- 2 replies

Every time I try to access Windows Update I'm met with the following message: "Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site. This website is designed to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems only. To find updates for Microsoft products that are designed for Macintosh operating systems, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/." Unfortunately, my computer is a Compaq Presario pc running MS Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2 w/AMD Sempron 3500+ 994MHz 1.43 GB RAM, NOT a Macintosh! Has anyone here ever heard of such a thing? I'm scanning my entire system right now with an antivirus program. I trie…

Hi everyone, I noticed the volume of my music was not as loud as it was in the past when playing CD's or MP3 files with Windows Media Player 10. I had the volume turned all the way up in Media player and also in Realtek HD Audio Manager, but the sound was just not anywhere near as loud as it was before. I recently un-installed "Discover stream hub / Discover.exe" and thought that this might have had something to do with it, but that does not seem to be the case. I decided to try to play an mp3 file with Realplayer and found that with the volume turned up in realplayer, the mp3 files sounded normal again, plenty of volume. What surprised me is that if I c…

Computer browser not in Services list
by Guest Boe- 1 reply

Hello, A client couldn't attach to the workgroup so I went on their xp workstation as an administrator and tried connecting via IP - it couldn't. It could ping the ip though. I right clicked on my computer, when to change the name of the workgroup (I've seen workstations pop out of a workgroup for whatever reason over the years). The workgroup area was grayed out. I went to services to check on the computer browser and it wasn't listed. I tried to manually run the computer browser but that didn't seem to help. I'm not sure how to fix this short of reformatting the PC. Thanks

Antivirus recommendation 1 2
by Guest John- 28 replies

Hi I need recommendation for an Antivirus for win xp. In the past I have avoided Norton Internet Security as it seems to take too much system resources and slows the pc down. I have always used Norton Antivirus, while for firewall I use win xp built-in firewall and router firewall. For spy ware I use Windows Defender. My question is can I move to the Norton Antivirus 350 without putting too much strain on resources or is plain Norton Antivirus still better for reasons I have described above? Many Thanks Regards

by Guest Jean- 1 reply

Why does my IE always have an error: "it needs to be closed and preparing an error report" or "it's not responding" and there's an END NOW button? The same with my other programs, whenever I shut down my computer, the "not responding" message appears about the program I just used.

Is it possible to construct an executable file that will run from Windows XP that will launch a VB script in Excel at regular intervals? Ideally, I would like to be able to assign this .exe program to Windows Task Scheduler in order to send data to other programs at assigned times. Many thanks.

Auto Logon Shift key override does not work
by Guest stu9000- 4 replies

I am trying to set up my machine to automatically log on to a user account. This works fine, but sometimes I need to log on to a different account for admin tasks etc. The problem I am getting is that holding the shift key during boot up does not bring up the windows logon screen. Windows automatically boots to the account I set up to automatically log on. I am using Windows XP SP2 and my auto logon registry settings are as follows, [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "DefaultUserName"="testUser" "DefaultDomainName"="" "DefaultPassword"="Password" "AltDefaultUserName"="" "AltDefaultDomainName"="" "AltDefaultPasswor…
