cannot get new menu to work
by Guest David McDivitt- 7 replies

I've read numerous things about adding items to the "new" right-click sub menu in explorer. I have WinXP SP 2. I want to create new php files by right clicking in the folder. I wrote a VB program that adds two items to the right-click menu: Open in Browser, and Open with Notepad. If I choose either of those, the VB program runs, computes the IIS virtual path and opens the php file through the browser, or uses what's found at txt/shell/open/command and opens the php file with that. If I can write a VB program to do that, surely I should be able to make the "new" sub menu work like I want. At hkey_classes_root I added .php\ShellNew and put the value name "NullFile…

by Guest Roxanne- 5 replies

I need some help. This is the situation. I have laptop on our domain and boot up the preparing networks connection sits for at least 3 minutes before going to applying computer settings and security policies. It takes even longer if the user has the network cable unplugged because it's searching for a network connection. All other systems on our domain are fine except for this one. I took the laptop off the domain and deleted the computer account and the preparing network connection zip through with ease (network cable plugged in or not plugged in). I created the computer account on the domain and rejoined the laptop and I still have the same problem.…

MFT Record Layout
by Guest Bob Simon- 3 replies

I'm trying to find some files from a corrupted hard drive that won't boot. I located the MFT by following the pointer at offset 0x30 in the NTFS Boot Record. The MFT records start with 'FILE' as expected and I can see the various attribute files identified as $.M.F.T., $.M.F.T.M.i.r.r., etc. I can't seem to find a record layout for these files anywhere online. Can someone help me with this?

Move local user profile to network user profile
by Guest Ron Hinds- 2 replies
I just added a Windows Server 2003 domain to my network. I then joined my XP Pro SP2 system to the domain. I want to move all of the settings of my original, local user profile to my new, domain user profile. But when I go to the My Computer | System Properties | Advanced | User Profiles and try to copy one profile to the other, it says that I must first delete everything from that folder (Documents and Settings\User.Domain). However, I am unable to delete everything from that folder due to sharing violations. It doesn't matter if I logon as the original user, the new user, the local Administrator, or the Domain Administrator. Is this just not possible, an…

Microsoft Photo Editor Error message
by Guest Fran27- 6 replies
I have just got a digital camera and tried to send some photos by email. There seem to be various photo programs on my computer but Microsoft Photo Editor seems the most straightforward for me to use. However, though the email does get sent, I receive the same Error message each time I use it, which is very disconcerting. The message is: 'Microsoft Photo Editor has encountered a problem and needs to close'. I tried doing a search on the message by typing it into Google but, though several people seem to receive it too, I can't understand any of the suggested ways to cure the problem. Can anyone help me please? (In a very easy-to-understand way)

Hard Disk Partitioning
by Guest takadimi- 8 replies

By partitioning the hard drive and having the OS and applications in the system partition, can we setup auto system recovery (ASR) only for that partition? Also, if I don't have any partitioning in my hard disk right now, do I have to wait until I reformat the disk next time to start having partitions? In other words, can we partition the disk anytime without affecting any data on the drive?
