Anti-Virus Software 1 2

I use Norton which seems to work very well in protecting my system except it seems to slow down my processing and web browsing. I just saw an advertisement for AVG anti-virus, ad-ware, spy-ware protection, etc. They claim superior protection without system or browsing interference. Anyone try it yet? Comments? Thanks -- jj

Real headache over the weekend.. Could some one be of an assistance please. Had hardware failure - memory related over the weekend - recovered in the end as I took out one of the memory sets and ran on just the one whilst waiting for the part. Whilst doing that , Dell recommended installing this KB microsoft fix through their automated PC check up utility. Once done, none of Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer, MyCOmputer or Control Panel worked. Also the Microsoft Update stopped working. Tried to XP Repair but no good. Uninstalled IE7 and reinstalled. No good.. Disabled Norton Anti Virus software services no joy. Started in Safe Mode with Netw…

Hello, I installed a D-Link Ethernet Card. Now the Windows XP starts to open. Then it takes me back to the screen that tells me Windows was not shut down properly. I have the choice to open in the last known good configuration, safe mode, start windows normally etc. It will not do any of the above, it just keeps rebooting itself. It will not read from the XP CD so I can not repair windows XP. Any suggestions? Thanks Joe

I'm having trouble running a program from the command line alzip -a c:\myfile backup.zi When I try this I get an error saying alzip isn't recognized as an internal/external command. If I just type alzip without the arguments the program launches. The command should work as it's just following the generic syntax on the website. Any suggestions?

Hi I have XP Pro, having just survived a major crash, and losing data since the last backup, 5 days, I need to set up a daily backup that my wife can run at the end of each day, she takes care of the business end of things, I need to have an icon on the desktop that can be double clicked and it runs, is there a program out there that can do this that won't take over the PC and load a lot of stuff I don't want, I tried to set something up with Windows backup but it does not run automatically for some reason. All help appreciated regards Daniel

When, I connect any USB device to my HP WindowsXP causes it to shut down and reboot. And then, when it starts again it gives me the message "Windows has recovered from serious error" ... Is there any other solutions than formatting and reinstalling WindowsXP? The following steps I already did, but not working 1) For about five seconds or so before it shuts down it gives me the message from the system tray saying "USB device detected" like any normal windows then it goes black screen at once! 2) I connected the USB devices to different USB ports that are directly connected to the motherboard 3) I've already updated motherboard bios. 3) I've already remov…

I had to do a system recovery on a Compq and now I missing around 90Gb on my hard drive. Does anyone know how to fix with out doing a destructive system recovery? I would had to have to back up everthing on my hard drive and no DVD burner. I just ran the system recover because I could not install XP SP2. System was corrupted but it still ran. The drive is 160 Gb and around 67 (or so) was used before the recover (round 5Gb is used for the Compaq partitions). I'm seeing this in the system directory and I also used command prompt to see if I could find other partitions, but there are none. Now, there were two user profiles made, I don't know if that has any…

Anyone know how/why/when a folder is created in Documents and Settings that matches the Computer Name? This folder has all the default subfolders that a regular user folder would have. XP Pro, SP2. There is no user on the machine that has the same name as the Computer Name. I have tried searching "Documents and Settings" "Computer name" folder XP (and various combinations) and have not found anything. Thanks!

Unallocated External Hard Drive
by Guest Ridders- 3 replies

Hello... I have been using an external hard drive (250GB) to back up my work on a day-to-day basis. A couple of days ago I started my computer up as per normal but my External Hard drive was not shown in My Computer. I checked out the status through disk manager and it is now shown as 'Unallococated' with no drive letter. This has all my important documents on it and I really need to find out how I can get access to the documents and make the drive useable again. Any help is greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Ridders
