good virus program??

I am running XP Pro & have always used Norton Anti-Virus. Recently it started "acting up", wanting to do a full system scan, which I did. But it was constantly trying to do this & there was always an error message on my task bat saying I needed to do this. When I did do it, it took over 4 hours as it did my main drive, a spare internal drive & my external. I removed it with the intent of re-installing. But after it was gone, I couldn't believe how much faster everything was running without Norton. So my question is, does anyone know of a GOOD anti-virus (not McAfee)? I don't care if I have to buy it. I just don't want Norton anymore & will…

Hi: This website http://www.graingerhonda.com/ou/savannah-honda// I cannot open with IE on a Sony Desktop with IE 7 installed. I can open this site with Opera 9.22 with same computer. The site is a redirected site. Also I can open this website with IE 7 on my Toshiba laptop with no problems. I checked the Security Settings on both computers with IE 7 and they appear to be the same. I have not been able to determine why one computer will open this site and the other will not with IE7. Any suggestions? Thanks

One time when I had to reboot my computer it asked me how I wanted to start my computer, can't remember the exact words. But ever since I made a certain selection my startup screen is not the same. It used to show the user accounts and now it shows a dialog box with a place to enter name and password. Can anyone help me change it back?

I have an alert in my system tray that I can not get rid of. When I right or left click on it, it takes me to an antivirus website. It does not have an "exit, or close" option. Do I need to track this down in the registry somewhere?

Re: Desktop Sidebar? Is there any way to remove windows sidebar completely from you computer? I can't find it and I've looked all over. I like a bare-boned computer with only my stuff on it. Programs entering List
by Guest Joe- 4 replies

I'm at a loss for words as I don't know the name of the area that I want to refer to. I am using XP Pro and now my computer has developed the habit of putting every program I open in the list above the ' All Programs ' ( that the area I was referring to) I'm sure there is some tweak to control this but I don't know where to find it. The list gets long and then I keep getting the message that there is not enough room. The icon size is set to small and the number of allowed programs is set at 10. Any thoughts please? -- Regards Joe Tasmania

Double Clicking where there was none before.
by Guest Tmuld- 1 reply

Hello, I was playing an online game and noticed actions were not working - I had to double click whereas before I had to single click. I closed the game and noticed it on my OS. Had to double click links or apps whereas before I just clicked them once. Checked my mouse settings - Turn on Clicklock is off. Sometimes while using Firefox I will notice a circle with a line through it that is black and ijnstead of the pointer. If I click again, it turns back to a pointer.... What is going on??? No Virus warnings, no firewall issues.... Thanks, Tmuld

Every once in a while when I go to close an application a transparent or faded image of the application still appears on the desktop. I have tried updating my video drivers and it has not resolved the problem. The only way to clear the screen is to shut down the computer and bring it back up. Any ideas on how to fix this?

No display after full screen command prompt exit
by Guest Jim Ormsbee- 1 reply

If I open a dos window (command prompt) and go full screen by pressing alt-enter and then exit by typing 'exit'/enter, my display goes blank. The same think happens if I press alt-enter a second time. After this I can toggle using alt-enter between a full screen dos window and a blank display. The keyboard seems to be fully functional. Knowing the keystrokes, I can shutdown or restart windows, but I cannot seem to restore my desktop without doing so. Also if I let the screen saver activate I seem to be in a permanent blank screen. Any suggestions. Thank you. -- Jim Ormsbee
