I'm trying to clean up my hard drive, I down loaded all my files and found that I have 13 (msvcr71.dll) files all the same size 348160. My question is do I require all 13 files from various programs or do I need 1. If only one, which do I keep the newest or oldest or something in between?? I also have other .dll files that are the same such as: msvcp71.dll, pclib32.dll etc. Thank for you help. -- Bob

Win xp home my friend has a HP desktop. I loaded motorola phone tools on it for her, and changed the power options for go on stby to never. then we restarted the machine. Upon boot up it stopped at the first screen that says "HP" I tried F8 and F10 for safe mode and it just sits there. We restarted several times with the same result. I then got pissed off and went to the store and to stop by my place to get some boot CD's to determine if it was a hardware problem, at which time my friend called and said it started up normally. So... any idea why this happened? Greg

by Guest Information- 4 replies

We have slaved a drive from a dead laptop into our desktop, and are unable to access our old folder in Documents and Settings. Both systems are running XP Home. I know access can be obtained, but I am forgetting the specific steps. We are logged in on the Desktop as an administrator, so I have access to the Security settings on the drive. Can someone please point me to the rights steps to take over this folder again, so we can copy our data to the new system? Thanks in advance, Dan

Printer won't work after reboot
by Guest Fred615- 2 replies

I have a laser printer that I had been using with a USB to Parallel adapter but after that connection got kind of funky, I went back to using the standard LPT1 port with Parallel cable. Now when I boot up, the printer appears in the Printer & Fax folder, and although I have it as default, the icon is grayed out and won't print. After I delete the printer and "Add New Printer", it isn't grayed out and it works fine. When I reboot the next time the icon is grayed out again but won't print until I delete and re-install it.. I'm running XP Pro SP2 on an Intel Core 2 2.66 Ghz cpu. I have a number of USB devices attached but no other printers. Also have a…

Is there any fix for the taskbar popups appearing behind the taskbar? It's an intermittent problem. Sometimes they all do it, sometimes just on the system tray. I've read that sorting the Start Menu works, but I find that sometimes it does and sometimes not Any good solution? -- Dale Beckett

Hello, I need a Find and Replace utility that works across multiple files. I found many such utilities, yet I need it to ask me, if I want to change an occurrence or not. Basically, the utility will show me the text, then asks me if I want to change it. Please let me know if you are aware of such a tool. Thanks. T.I.

Code 10, no audio device ...
by Guest RobinZ- 6 replies

Swapped in new motherboard to existing box, kept existing XP SP2 OS. XP re-dected all devices upon reboots. Loaded all manufacturer's motherboard drivers. Audio enabled in BIOS. Vinyl AC97 codec driver status "This device cannot start. (Code 10)", greyed out in control panel. Boot from Ubuntu disk, I hear audio, therefore not a hardware problem. Something in XP, do you know what I can clear out in registry to get working? Robin

XP SP2 .NET update installs correctly, then XP repeatedly asks toinstall it, over 6 times now... I recently performed a Windows Update on my XP SP2 and a NET framework update was installed. Now XP repeatedly wants to install the same update, telling me the update was successful each time. I performed the same update 3 times just to make sure I wasn't missing anything, or watching to see if there were error messages during the installation that I wasn't seeing, but nothing looked out of the ordinary. "Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-040 - Critical" lists one Critical and one Important Severity rating for this SP2 update, so I imagine it may be a good i…

by Guest - Bobb -- 3 replies

I run monthly batch job to defrag my drives.(XP SP2 version of defrag - not Diskeeper) Today I happened to notice a log file showing: ======= Windows Disk Defragmenter Copyright © 2001 Microsoft Corp. and Executive Software International, Inc. Analysis Report 25.04 GB Total, 9.54 GB (38%) Free, 5% Fragmented (11% file fragmentation) Defragmentation Report 25.04 GB Total, 9.51 GB (37%) Free, 0% Fragmented (0% file fragmentation) ======== Why would I end up with LESS space free than I had while fragmented ? Not concerned - just curious.
