by Guest ggalv- 7 replies

I really need some help with this. My AVG Antivirus found this "Trojan Horse Dropper.Agent.JOC." It was located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine\6\Intel 32 Is there away to find out information about this? If it is a virus? I have done some research on the internet and have read several articles. I am not for certain if its a "false positive" and restore it OR if I should delete it from the Vault? Really Appreciate your help.

Boot up problem
by Guest Francis Marsden- 1 reply

(XP Home, fairly new system) Sometimes-about 1 in 7 boot-ups or reboots- the windows splash screen starts out very faded, and remains very faded for a long time (much longer than the duration of splash in a normal boot). Only then does the splash reach normal brightness and then everything proceeds ok. Otherwise the comp works well. I am worried that this is a hardware problem that could get worse. Any suggestions?

Google and Service Pack-3
by Guest Stu- 13 replies

Since installing Service Pack-3, I'm having trouble with Google, (as well as other search engines). When I search for something using Google, it returns some obscure, but remotely related sites. If I then click on "Preferences" then "save Preferences" (without making any changes), it returns to Google and things are working correctly. Similarly, if I try to use "Advanced Search", all I get is a blank screen, unless I do the "Preferences" thing again. All this seems to have occurred since I installed SP-3 in to Windows XP pro. Did something get set wrong during the installation? I've gone through all the "Internet Options" in IE-6, and everything look…

BIG FTP Problem
by Guest Olen R. Pearson- 3 replies

Hi, I am having a very odd problem with FTP. Basically, it won't work. The FTP client seems to connect but then issues an error and no files appear on the remote server. The last time I needed to use FTP was in February of this year, and it worked fine. Now, when I try it, it goes nowhere. I have tried several different FTP clients and accounts, all with the same outcome. It is not a firewall problem; I run only Win XP Pro firewall and have tried it with that disabled + anything else that even MIGHT effect connections. I have tried it in Safe Mode with no success which makes me think it is not a conflict with another app - though I don't believe I have …

What program or DLL is used to compress files in XP? I know compact is for the file system, but what is used when you want to make a zip and do not have a 3rd part add-on such as winzip. I have been searching, but have not found an answer.

AOL installation problems
by Guest Mr.Joecat- 9 replies

I had a very old computer running windows Me (yes, you heard right) and never had a single problem with it in 9 years, including with AOL. I loaded XP on it and everything works fine, except I can't install AOL now (which worked fine before). One of two things usually happens: After I upload AOL from an installation disk, I get a message saying "AOL will now install files you need to run AOL. You will need to restart to use AOL". I click yes, reboot, and instead of AOL loading I get the same message over and over again in an endless loop, like it keeps trying to finish installing but won't. The second is, on a few occasions I actually got he AOL sc…

I have a virus. My desktop is white with "Active Desktop Recovery" which when I hit "Restore my Active Desktop" I get the message "an error occured in the script". Plus my start menu is gone. When I hit start, the right side is blank plus "programs" is gone. Any help in getting me back to normal will be appreciated. I can see them on my Start menu anymore. PLus there is this Desktop pic of "Buy Privacy Protection Service now" with the Url Link with it. Ghost image backup won't boot.
by Guest Matty Anderson- 4 replies

I restored my boot partition from a Ghost image, and when booting, the computer gets past the first XP screen, then hangs at the welcome screen. I see the mouse and the welcome screen, but no login choices. This is the first time I've tried this, and the restoration itself seemed to go smoothly. I was sure to check the box to set the partition active. BTW, this is a Gateway laptop w/ Turion, 1Gb ram, 120gb HD with XP Media Center. I'm trying to avoid doing a full reinstall. That's why I made the ghost image. In case I need to, though, I no longer have the disks that came with the computer, but the XP sticker is still on the bottom. Will that seri…
