Windows Licence Locked by Registry?
by Guest Vista- 5 replies
Hi. I want to change my XP licence key. I've tried Jellybean key-changer, but it won't allow me to change it. I vaguely remember changing a value in the registry a long time back that effectively locked this. Can anyone throw any light on what value I might have to change back to allow the change? Thanks, Vista

Reloading Windows

I want to re-load Windows XP Pro on my current machine and when I put in the XP CD it notes that the machine already has a newer version of the XP OS. How should I proceed - download from MS site or get around the splash screen? I guess it is referring to the fact that I added SP1 and the old CD doesn't reflect that. Suggestions? James

Lost savings bond files, no idea why or how to get it back
by Guest peisenbe- 6 replies

I had saved a number of savings bonds from a website directly onto the desktop of my computer. Now, they have disappeared, and I don't know how that could have happened. I am not the only user of this computer, but I do not think any other user (only my family) would have deleted or changed the files, at least not on purpose. I tried searching for the file names using the Windows XP Search option, and I found the file names in "Recent Documents", but when I clicked on them, I received a message saying that the links were shortcuts, and the original files that they referred to had been changed or removed. Is there anything you can think of that might have c…

New PC's: 64-bit hardware/driver issues?
by Guest (PeteCresswell)- 5 replies

I've been anointed to provide a PC for somebody in the extended family. All they do is web mail and web page browsing... period, although I'd think any solution I provide should also be capable of rendering You-Tube videos. My first thought was dumpster diving, a little extra memory, a low-end LCD monitor and a cordless keyboard/mouse. Got an old Compaq Celeron 1.1 ghz/500-meg that I rescued from the trash sitting right next to me as my own spare PC which does all of the above adequately. Thinking, on second thought, that maybe a new box would be cheap enough tb worth the lack of hassle, I went down to Circuit City today and looked around. A guy the…
