Do you really care about putting into action, all those wonderful ideas that ran into your stream of consciousness, at some point of time. Let me introduce spigit.com, the venue you must be in to see your otherwise unused ideas bloom and see the light of the day. Spigit.com just launched on the 18th July, 2007 with 25 new featured ideas- which are on their journey to make their mark as the next evolving technology. In spigit you can put up your raw & unfinished ideas. Spigit's simulation then takes your ideas through 3 lifecycle stages - incubation, validation and emergence. During which you can refine ideas, find the right resources to get started, create …

Following last weeks release of KB939373 for bulletin MS07-041, several of our developers began experiencing problems with IIS installed locally on their Windows XP SP2 workstations. the obvious negative impact was IIS failed to start producing the following error: Error 127: The specified procedure could not be found. troubleshooting 101 says undo the last thing done, so we uninstalled the patch and IIS began working. It is worth noting out of the 22 developers only 4 were experiencing the problems and I confirmed they all had the patch installed. I have "unapproved" this patch from being deployed to any other workstations with WSUS to prevent t…

bad clusters/sectors on new laptop, chkdsk gets stuck trying to repair
by Guest techman41973@yahoo.com- 8 replies

I recently bought a new HP laptop with an extended warrantee. In the past few weeks, often I would get the blue screen of death and the system will just spontaneously crash and then I have to reboot. I ran chkdsk and it says there are errors on the drive (no specifics). It then tells me it couldn't repair the problems because the drive was locked by other processes. I then entered in the command prompt chkdsk /F/R and answered Yes for to authorize CHKDSK to run on reboot. When CHKDSK runs on reboot everything is fine until stage 4/5 where I get a ton of error messages, all the same "the disk does not have enough space to replace bad clusters" I then went into w…

Password Managers
by Guest Joco- 8 replies

Hi, Symantec has advised me that if you run Norton 360, it's not compatable with Norton Password Manager 2004, and it should therefor be deleted. I have searched and tried the free download for several programs, I cant find a simple Password Manager that will store passwords and credit card details, and also form fill. Most of those I tried seem more appropriate for the American market, multi users or networks. Any suggestions would be welcome, thanks. Joco (London)

Windows won't start...black screen
by Guest Charlie- 2 replies

Running Windows XP Home edition SP1 on a 4-year old Dell Dimension 4600. Starts up and I get the Windows XP logo with the loading bar below it, and then the screen goes black. Then I hear the Windows chime like it's starting behind the black screen. It's not a black screen like a DOS screen with a command prompt. It's just black. I CAN start it in Safe Mode. It will not do system restore at any point, and it will not boot to "last known good configuration". Clean boot did not work. Ran AntiVirus with no results. Tried to boot from Win XP installation CD and it wouldn't boot (is that a BIOS thing?) ZoneAlarm did catch a trojan the other night, which I…

Re:Synchronizing Clock

Re:Synchronizing Clock I had the same problem. Searched various forums through Google and found the best solution to be: Modify your registry (start, run, regedit): Browse to: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/DateTime/Servers] Right click on the first line and choose "Modify" and change the data entry to 1. Right click the second line and chooose "Modify" and change the data entry to: tick.usno.navy.mil This will make the US Navy the default Internet site and for some reason this site is fast and accurate and doesn't give and error while synchronizing. Exit from the registry editor and your entries will be s…

Registry corruption?
by Guest Kurosh- 2 replies

Hi, While working on a problem for a client today, I uninstalled their Norton Ghost 12, planning to re-install it. After uninstalling, the two DVD drives disappeared from "My Computer", and in Device Manager it was giving an error about the drivers having loaded successfully but the devices were not found. I found this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 I was attempting to go through the steps for deleting the registry keys. (Method 2) It says: "4. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. " However, looking in the "Class" key, there were about 15+ keys with that ID. Each one had a different "(Default)" value, …
