downloading large files
by Guest art- 4 replies

I've been trying to download a 600 mb file. I can only get to about 20-30 mb (never the same number) when download stops. Eventually operation times out. I've tried mirror sites and different files, same result. A download of about 20 mb works fine. I've tried emptying temporary internet files (the space alloted to my temp files is at 1024 mb). I uninstalled IE7, and tried IE6, that got me to 40% of the 600 mb, then then stop. Any ideas of what trouble might be? Thanks for any help.

Add/Remove Programs
by Guest Jo999- 7 replies

I looked at my Control Panel and all the entries in there are not the ones that were originally there. This happened shortly after I uninstalled Yahoo. It does not give the size of the program, not is there a remove button I can click to remove them. I tried the registry, but they are not listed there. I even did a search for the programs and came up empty. How do I get rid of them? Thanks for any help.

No Hibernate tab in Power Option Properties in XP x64? In PAE mode its not allowed
by Guest wrreisen2@yahoo.com- 3 replies

Hi, I have Windows XP x64. I would like to be able to hibernate with the computer this is installed on. When I look in Power Option Properties there is no Hibernate tab. I open up a command line window and type: powercfg /hibernate on and get the response: Hibernation failed with the following error: The request is not supported. The following items are preventing hibernation on this system. The system is running in PAE mode, and hibernation is not allowed in PAE mode. Is there some way I can use a different mode other than PAE mode so I can Hibernate this machine. I have 4Gb ram and a core duo processor. This machine has an LSI megaRAI…

I'm using WinXP Media Center, the last few days I've noticed that there's some kind of d/l actitivity showing even when I'm doing nothing online even with the Windows firewall up as well as ZoneAlarm. I'm on 56k dialup. How do I determine what this is? I don't have Windows update on automatic. I ran AdAware with the latest definitions but it's still doing it. Thanks.

Have you seen this software?
by Guest jim- 10 replies

I am looking for some software that will let me blank a remote server's monitor. I want the screen to still be attached, but I want to disable the monitor (NOT the video card) to keep the server more secure (I don;t want the users at the location to be able to see what is happening on the server). LogMeIn can blank the monitor while I am logged in, but the screen is shown again when I log out. Even if I choose to lock the screen on disconnects, it shows the login which clues the employees in that somebody may be monitoring the location. I just want the monitor blank - all the time - unless I choose otherwise. It seems pretty simple, but damned if …

Reinstalling XP when upgrading MB/CPU
by Guest sillyputty- 1 reply

This is a continuation of a thread where I questioned MS's instructions that require a reinstall of XP after installing a new motherboard/CPU. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;824125 I just started my puter after installing a Biostar 6100 mobo and AMD 4200 X2 CPU. I went in to BIOS and changed some settings, hit exit & save and WinXP started right up. It found all the new hardware, and installed/reinstalled the drivers, either from WinXP or the CDs that came with the new hardware. Everything seems fine and I didn't have to go through the headache of reinstalling XP and updating - especially since I did it recently. The old mobo/CP…

I have two accounts on one computer and I'd like for each account to have a different resolution. Unfortunately, when I change the resolution in one account and then switch to the other account, the other account ends up using the same resolution. ie. they both seem to be using the same resolution. Is there a way I can change this behavior?
