Windows SFR
by Guest Computer Questions- 1 reply

Hi All, I use a program called Movie Magic to edit my home video clips. Yesterday I noticed when I clip on it, a window opens with a title of SFR. The window tells me that Windows is configuring SFR and a progress bar appeas. This happens several times in rapid sucession, as if several different elemets are being installed. There is a cancel button, whch after clicking several times closes the window. I have tried to look up SFR on the web, but have had no luck. Does anyone know if that is an actual Windows process being done? I'm running WinXP with SP# installed. Thanks for any advice.

Memory: best performance of system cache
by Guest Tyler Durden- 3 replies

In some XP installations, I've noticed that setting the Performance, Memory usage, Adjust for best performance of System cache results in a non bootable system, taking longer time to load profile then unloading it, in a endless loop. Anyone else experienced this and have a solution to this issue? In some cases, the hardware and software is identical, cloned. As always, any help would be appreciated.

Keyboards/Mice

Hi, We have 1 PC with 2 cloned monitors. The monitors are in seperate offices, about 30 feet apart. What we need to do is to be able to have each monitor have it's own keyboard & mouse to control the screen. We are running XP. My questions are: 1) Can you do thing with Windows configuration, or some type of inexpensive software or hardware. 2) Since the monitors are cloned, I assume that what happens on one happens on the other. 3) If we wanted 2 seperate monitors on the same PC, what is involved in that? If I could get some help, it would really be appreciated. Thanks!

Can I rely on "copy" command?
by Guest Walter R.- 15 replies

I often have occasion to copy or move large blocks of files from one partition to another. Win XP SP2 has never told me yet that it has lost a byte here or a byte there. Can I assume that all transfers are done flawlessly and with zero data loss? Will Windows let me know if it accidentally loses or mangles a few bytes while transferring data? -- Walter http://www.rationality.net -

It's only partially a software or XP problem, as hardware (mainly the motherboard) determines how efficiently > 3 GB of RAM is used. There is a 64 bit version of XP. I've seen systems that exploit up to 3.6 GB of the installed 4 GB of RAM. While any loss represents less than ideal operation, losing only 10% is pretty easy to excuse. > But I also understand if we use XP 64 > bit we'd…

Unmountable Boot Volume error when shutting down
by Guest Anonymous- 0 replies

When I shut down my computer, the machine goes through its regular procedures, but right before it normally turns off, a blue screen appears saying something to the effect of "Unmountable Boot Volume". I ran chkdsk /r as I have read elsewhere on the internet, but the problem occurs so intermittently that I can't tell if that really does anything.

I have read many posts about changing from Vista to XP-Pro on different Toshiba laptops, however I've tried most suggestions to no avail. I'm looking to see if anyone can point me in the right direction so I can get back the use of my USB flashdrive? Most of the drivers came back once I went to Driver Detective but I still have several that unidentified. I've been to Tohiba's website and downloaded an earlier version for the USB driverer and it will not install on my system. The items not working properly is 1) power management settings to let the computer hibernate or sleep 2) USB connection to see a flashdrive 3) the good clear display settings. …

Cannot uninstall my RCA cable modem adapter
by Guest Joe T- 3 replies

I no longer have Comcast as my internet provider. In my device manager under Network adapters I have 2 instances of the RCA USB Cable Modem - Packet scheduler Miniport with exclaimation marks on them. I tried to uninstall them but I get the message-"Failed to uninstall the device- The device may be required to boot up the computer". Comcast is no help on this problem. They say to contact Microsoft. Microsoft say's " Sorry, not our program" and want to charge me. My point to Comcast is that their cable modem and program installed the device so they can jolly well help me uninstall it, but I'm met with a brick wall. "We don't do registry stuff. We just help…

How can I stop "My Pictures" from being listed in avail. wallpapers?
by Guest John Corliss- 11 replies

First off, I'm running XP Home SP3. I've installed no screen saver or wallpaper manager programs. For some reason, my computer has started listing all of the hundreds of images in the "My Pictures" folder whenever I try to select a new wallpaper. It seems that this tendency started after I installed SP3. I *abhore* this new way of Windows doing things. Not only that, but whenever I click on "Browse" to select another folder to select wallpaper from, the default folder location is.... "My Pictures". GAAACK!! I'm already aware of the registry hack for changing the default wallpaper folder; supposedly you should be able to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFT…

Offline File Synchronization
by Guest MDom1977- 6 replies

I have a user that had Offline files synch set up for his home drive. We switched server location of the home drives. Obviuosly this broke the synch for him. When we turn offline file synch off, it does sych again until a reboot occurs. It will remap him to the old drive and break the synch. Is there a way to clear the cache somehow to correct this?

Favorites Icons
by Guest Colon Terminus- 0 replies

I just recently upgraded my wife's computer from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Professional. When she had 2K she could change the icons lister under "Favorites" to the icons of her choice. Under XP, when she changes a "Favorites" icon it immediately reverts back. Is there a way to change this behaviour? Right now she's hating XP due to LOTS of little annoyances such as this. -- Posted via NewsDemon.com - Premium Uncensored Newsgroup Service ------->>>>>>http://www.NewsDemon.com<<<<<<------ Unlimited Access, Anonymous Accounts, Uncensored Broadband Access

Deploying .NET 2.0 SP1 via Group Policy
by Guest Ben- 3 replies

Hi, I'm trying to deploy .NET 2.0 SP1 via group policy software installs, along with .NET 3.5. For .NET 3.5 to install successfully .NET 2.0 _SP1_ must be installed first. I have been able to deploy .NET 1.1 SP1, .NET 2.0 (non SP1) & .NET 3.0 (non SP1) via Group Policy without any problem. However, if I try and do the same for .NET 2.0 SP1, the install fails, the trouble is, I can't tell why. Usually an event log for 'Application Management' is created under the Application event log. However for this deploy, you can see it tries to get applied, on machine start up, but quickly disappears, and nothing appears in the event log to suggest why. I have do…
