Hi I am a newbie in Microsoft visual studio. According to the documentation, the solution can contain several projects. Each project can run with different platform with Win32 or x64. I don't understand this. I use Win32. Then I cannot run this solution on x64, can I? If I use x64 window OS, why should I choose Win32 platform? Thank you in advance. Mike

RE: Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

RE: Files and Settings Transfer Wizard Hi to all just adding my comments I have used F+STW for years as I upgrade, build, rebuild and reload PCs. I do not trust it as I have had problems with it so I always back up my files to disk anyway. I HAVE FOUND; It's the speed of the re install. I set a folder on the desktop and run the collection wizard to store into it. I then copy this folder across my network to another PC. If I use an external drive (as the old drive was full I just plug this into a second PC on the network.) It seems faster to colect first to a folder and then copy that to a second pc. I then rebuild the offending pc. I install…

Bad image checksum
by Guest traumajohn- 4 replies

Hi, I have a pc with xp home. It was runnning fine. I downloaded sp2 and it stopped responding at the cleaning up stage. I did an alt cntrl delete to restart the pc and now it just keeps restarting. I have selected safe mode, last known good config and stop reboot when windows has an error. All with no success. I either get a blue screen stated," stop: c0000221 bad checksum. The image comdlg32.dll is probably corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum or it just keeps restarting. Thanks, John

Talked to Linksys and they say it's MS issue. Checked all my settings. Connection screen says "you are connected to the access point but no internet can be found." other laptops can connect on this network though. I've rebooted, rebooted the internet receiver, reinstalled the adapter software etc. to no avail. I also tried reinstalling service pack 2. Any ideas?

Gigahertz Network - Cat 5e or Cat 6 better?
by Guest Bob Day- 6 replies
Using latest Windows XP Pro SP3 with all latest updates... If there is a better forum for this question, please advise. For my home network, I have 3 computers peer to peer networked via Gigahertz speed and everthing works fine at that speed. All current cable is Cat 5e most running short distances, but some running long distances (i.e. 100 feet). I went to buy a new ethernet cable, and the boxes of the Cat 5e cables said for a 10/100 network, where as the boxes of the Cat 6 cable said 10/100/1000. I found this confusing and contrary to my understanding...therein lies the question. What is the difference between the two (cat 5e and cat6)? Can you …

IE7 missing background web images
by Guest Michael- 1 reply

I am logging into an XP pro SP2 machine as an admin and everything in IE7 is fine - log in as another user with limited access and for all the world it is as if the web is now CSS disabled... the layout is correct on all pages - but no colour and no background images that are controlled by css. Changing the users privaledges to admin has no effect. I have looked at all IE7 tweaks but cannot correct this. Any ideas would be appreciated.

How do you cut down the Programs that load at Boot?
by Guest wadebarg- 7 replies
How do I reduce the programs that load at boot to cut down on the time it takes to boot? I realize many are necessary to run but as I have loaded netw applications ,some set the system to load at boot. An example is Palm. I have 16 icons in the system tray and would like to reduce to 8. I can run "msconfig" and get to the System Configuration Utility, click on Start Up Tab and remove the check on the programs I don't want to load. I then click Apply and OK and re- boot and they come back and load. What am I missing? I have Windows XP with SP3 and all updates. Laptop with 1 Meg RAM. I hope some one can clue me as to what I am missing! -- wadebarg

Updates not installing during reboot
by Guest Chris Barnes- 5 replies
I just completed a fresh install of WinXP Tablet from a cd w/ SP2 slipstreamed in. All went well. Did the first couple of sets of updates, including the SP3 update. Good. Then installed Office 2007 and did the update, which installed Microsoft Update (the newer, nicer version). Now the computer is telling me it needs to Turn Off to install 22 updates. I do it & it looks like the updates are installing (get the "don't turn off your computer" message). Computer seems to finish; turn it back on. Trying to do the next round of updates fails (one of the updates is for IE7) - the "turn off" button again having the little icon that it needs to fin…

Microsoft Document Imaging
by Guest Richard Larsen- 0 replies

Hello, I have a few users that awhile back their Microsoft Document imaging stopped working. I researched for a fix and found a post that said to replace the new MSPSCAN.EXE withe the one in the temp folder under system32 I believe. out of Four users this has worked for 2 users. The other users are having trouble saving the scan. When they save the scanned image it gives an error that "Microsoft Document imaging has encountered an error and needs to close" I look at the error report and it is referencing the mspview.exe. I tried also replacing this file and it still errors. Is there anyone that has encountered this issues and found a fix?

How to do this monitor thing in XP
by Guest artmerar@yahoo.com- 6 replies
Hi, What we need to do is to hook up 2 monitors to 1 computer. The monitors will be in different rooms, so we do not want to stretch the desktop, but we want to have the same desktop on 2 screens....... So, 2 separate monitors displaying the same image. I know I've seen lots of documentation on this, but they all seem to focus on stretching the desktop, which is not what we want. I'm assuming I'll need a video card with dual outputs? Do the monitors need to be the same? How is this done? Thank you!

WININVDEL

For GPs I thought I'd let the group know but unfortunately I've already dispensed with the program and now I can't find the post it was recommended in. At any rate: I think the recommended program to remove invalid windows file/folder names was wininvdel. I tried it (unsuccessfully, unfortunatly) on a file I've had problems with deleting for ages. Then when I went to uninstall it, there was no entry in Add/Remove Programs for it. As it turns out it's a file written in VB6 so to uninstall it you have to go to Program Files/PurgeIE and run the uninst000.exe file from there. I recognized it because I'm also a VB6 developer. It DOES properly unins…

Please advise where to find and step by step directions. Also what does this file do and relate too? Have XP Professional on a laptop with 1 meg RAM. -- wadebarg

Debug Dump Files
by Guest Judith- 2 replies

Today, using Disc Cleanup, I noticed a category that I have never seen before: Debug Dump Files. I am not having any problems with my computer, but haven't a clue what these are. I'm afraid when I went to the support area of Microsoft web site, it was over my head as I have not created these files, at least not on purpose. What are they and should I allow Disc Cleanup to erase them?
