Hi People I am running XP Pro on a P3 1Ghz machine and everything works good except for the combo CD/DVD drive. After boot up , I notice that my CD/DVD drive is not detected and I have to go into My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager and rescan my computer to get the CD/DVD drive to show up and be detected. After that , the drive works good and there is no problem with it at all. Does anybody know how to get the CD/DVD drive detected on boot up ? by Guest sandra4453- 2 replies

pdf files stopped working in IE7 and causes IE to shut down. Using Adobe Reader 7.1, tried updating to 8.1, tried uninstalling in control panel original version and neither one works. Can't uninstall adobe even when I uninstall all related programs first. Error message 1714...."older version can't be removed", "patch package couldn't be opened and verify that it exists". Tried cleaning everything with the msicuu2 (microsoft uninstaller) and with CC Cleanup. Tried deleting downloaded adobe files in program files, still nothing. Disabled most startup programs in msconfig to see if something may have been blocking this attempt and I still was not able…

Are there some foolproof ways of resetting Windows XP passwords? I have tried a few of the tools out there, and although they work okay with Windows 2000, they appear to find Windows XP difficult. Any real contenders?

I have an LG DVD RW drive installed as a secondary optical drive - the built-in Windows CD Burning function recognises that the drive is RW but doesn't recognise that there is a CDR in it, (Which there is). CDBurner XP Pro sees the disk OK. Is there a solution to this?

Two 'versions' of WinXp on the same pc?
by Guest Sumgod- 9 replies
Hello One & All! Any info I can glean here will be much appreciated. Briefly what I want to do is have two 'versions' of WinXp Home on one pc with a choice of which to boot to. The first, WinXP1 say, would have all the usual stuff (antivirus, pictures, mp3s, docs, etc). The second, WinXP2 say, would only have software for recording audio (i.e. all other software including antivirus would be uninstalled - got to say I'm not too sure about leaving off the antivirus but that's the thinking at the mo'). So when I switch on the pc it would by default boot to WinXP1 unless I chose (somehow?) to load WinXP2. How do I go about doing this? Bac…

Partitioning - 64K block size - Using the Windows interface
by Guest Pawluk- 5 replies
I want to partition my 320GB HDD with 2 additional drives, D:\ and E:\ and would like to partition one of these drives with 64K block sizes. Unfortunately, I have never done this on Windows XP and after reviewing the Windows XP "Using the Windows interface" help file, I do not know how to specify the 64K block size. The 64K block size is supposed to enhance my PVR TV recording playback features. I plan on using the other drive for DVD recordings. Any assistance is sincerely appreciated. Thanks, Pawluk

Bootable partitions G, H, and I are on the same drive. I boot partition G and try to change the H partition letter but a warning message appears informing me that H is in use. The H partition is neither a system nor a pagefile partition. Then I try to change the I partition letter but again a warning message appears informing me that partition I is in use. I is neither a system nor a pagefile partition. Since I booted partition G, why is H and I in use?
