I support multiple Laptops for multiple end-users. These end-users and their laptops at various times log onto, authenticate and connect to an Novell Netware Network tree. All end-users are using an Novell Client 4.91 SP3 for Windows program. At the initial Novell for Windows Log on screen, they uncheck the Work Station only box. They insert their Network UserName and Password, same as their Local Windows Account Username and Password. The two accounts are set in sync with each other. The correct Novell Network Tree and Context setting are confirmed. The Network Authentication process is completed and the Network Paths are mapped and connected. But during the loading of t…

SSO Fails on XP SP2
by Guest Miguel Sanders- 0 replies

Dear all I don't know whether or not I should post this here or in comp.kerberos but I will do both. After successfully implementing a cross realm trust between AD and a UNIX realm, it seems that the clients that user SP1 can successfully have SSO to the UNIX machine whereas the SP2 people can't. Can anyone help me out, since I am not a Windows expert :-) The tool I use for SSO on the Windows clients is Vintella Putty 0.60 q1.129. Kind regards Miguel

I'm running SP2 on a Intel Core2Duo machine and am pretty comfortable around computer (having built my own in the recent past). I've been having problems with IE 7.0.5. Can't read or open PDF files (although I have Acrobat 8.0 installed), can't view page source, etc. I get this message. "Windows cannot access the specific device, path or file. You may not have permission to access the item." So yesterday, I ran the IE "diagnose connections problem" tool and low & behold, it fixed the problem. This morning I boot my machine and as it gets past post and starts to load Windows, I get this message..."Procedure entry point_resetstkflw could not be …

Wireless connected without my action
by Guest mholt@ohiohills.com- 1 reply

I just found that my computer has connected with a "public WiFi" on its own. I looked once at the wireless network list because there are new persons living nearby, but I have never connected with anyone else. The last time I connected with any wireless was last summer! This is a bit disturbing because that public wireless network to which I was connected a few minutes ago is no longer in my list of possible connections. Two others, both with poor signals, are available. The offending network had a good solid five-bar signal, but it's not listed now. Any ideas?

Problem to launch an application, except in Safe mode.
by Guest Daniel- 0 replies

Hi everybody. I have this application (a French dictionnary) which worked beautifully for years, until this morning. It is a "one-session only" app. Now, for some reason, when I launch it, nothing happens. If I try to launch it again, I get a *normal* message (i.e. generated by the application) indicating that this application is already being used. However, it doesn't appear in Task Manager / Application. I cannot relate this problem to anything I could have done. My system (DELL, Windows XP SP1) is very stable, maintained, and I didn't install any program lately. No virus, as far as Norton can say. No other bug I know of. I tried to reinstall the ap…

I have a batch file that runs the ntbackup tool fo some of my important users. I have scheduled the task to run with the NT Authority\System account, the task runs fine and creates the backup file, but when I go to see the log file it doen't exist. I have tried adding /L:F or /L:S to the ntbackup command, but no success. The point is that if I doble click the bacth file it created the log file under the correct path: C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data It means the bacth file is fine but there is something wrong when I run the process with the system account. Any advice would be helpfu…

Corrupted Registry and Unable to Boot
by Guest Harris- 5 replies

Help! I was working with the registry file and managed to disable my computer. I searched this site and all related posts I found point to KB 307545. Problem is I have an OEM operating system installed and the KB warns against restoring hive files in this case. Moreover, my copy of XP is on a DVD and I am not sure I can boot to this drive anyway. Prior to editing the registry I saved a copy to another folder. My question is is there any way to get to this backup version of the registry and restore it without using hive files? Would booting to DOS allow for this? I understand sysinternals has an NTFS add-on for DOS. Otherwise, could I somehow u…

I am thinking about buying Windows XP PRO. I saw an ad about a new company, PC Upgrading and their low prices. Do you think $75 is a good price for PC Upgrading. I heard this company is very good. -- XP Message posted via http://www.windowskb.com
