Hi, This might not be the right group but I try anyway. I know Linksys isn't supported here but I believe I have that setup correctly. What I'm trying to do is: I have a peer-to-peer setup at a main office (all XP Pro OSes), I have two remote sites (both 2000 Pro), the main office has a Linksys router with a VPN solution built in. The remote sites are connected directly to their respective cable modem. I have all firewalls off just for troubleshooting issues. I have 2 computers in the main office that I want the 2 remote sites to connect to. I can connect to one of the computers just fine from both sites using Remote Desktop(not at the same time of course…

i have a box running WinXp pro sp2. each time i try to shut the system down, i get a message saying that windows will install important updates before shutdown, then i get a screen looking like the logging off screen but with a progress message like installing update 1 out of 3.. installing update 2 out of 3.. installing update 3 out of 3.. and it's always 3 updates, what's even more weird is that i get this for all users regardless of the privileges each has. my Norton antivirus detects nothing. is this a normal behavior ?

I am continually getting out of free space on my system and the worst part is that my main hard drive (c:) is mainly only used for the operating machine... and I've deleted the temp files and any other file I know not needed, but I keep getting the message telling me that I am running low on drive space and that system restorer needs more than 200megs to run and I only have (at times...) only 42 megs available, how do I eliminate enough space without deleting the wrong stuff from my system?

I have a system I'm working on Hp pavilion. I have the restore cd's and have used them to restore the restore partition. The problem come in when I try to boot after using sytem recovery to reinstall XP, Windows will not get to the welcome screen. Initially I did the following completely fomatted the hd, wiping out the recovery partition and the windows partition, then restored the recovery partition, then tried to restore windows, so far the restore partition is marked C and active, and the windows partition is D and logical, I thought these restore cd's were supposed to do all this automatically, NOT even using an XP oem disc and starting the install, when…

Windows XP Pro - changing desktop icons
by Guest Trish- 1 reply

Hi, I often put shortcuts on my deskop and like to easily identify them by the icon. I used to simply right-mouse-click on the existing icon, go to properties, change icon and select from a range. Now I can see these any more. In any event, there was not that much to choose from. What is the best way to change an icon, and when I browse for an icon, where should I go? Many thanks.

Desktop Icons are Unreliable
by Guest MickyMick- 7 replies

I hope someone can help: when I click on a desktop icon, a different program will often open. (I think it's always the last program that I had open.) If I click on the icon a second time, it's ok. So, for example: if I've been working in Word, then I close Word, and click on my Firefox icon, Word will probably open instead of Firefox. But if I click on Firefox a second time, it will open without a problem. I suspect that the problem has something to do with some spyware. Norton antivirus caught something shortly before this problem started. It got rid of the sypware (or claimed to), but the problem lingers. I'd be very grateful if anyone has any …
