Hi, I'm trying to find a way to determine which drivers and which services will be started when I boot a computer in Safe Mode. So any of you know about this topic ? For example, does Windows look in the registry to determine if a driver will be loaded ? Is there a special key responsible for this ? Thank you Al

I have been getting blue screen error stop 0x0000007E (0xC000005,0x805C607B,0xF789E1E8,0x789DEE4). It seems to happen anytime, usually after shutting AOL 9.0vr down not always though. It just started happening two day ago. Usually I just take it back to an earlier good configuration. Can anyone tell me what this stop is and how to fix it. I am running XP home sp2.Please respond

As you know the user can export all cookies from Internet Explorer into one singel file by the menu File->Import and Export... Now I want to compare such a cookie backup file (created in the past) with the cookies currently existing. Is there such a tool which can do that ? Alternatively a utilty would be fine for comparing two exported cookies archives. Tobias

Can't Add/Remove Programs
by Guest Andrea- 7 replies

I'm trying to remove several programs that I no longer use from my computer, but when I go to "add/remove" them all I see are a list of the programs that are currently installed with no option to remove them. I've checked a couple FAQ pages that talk about problems with adding and removing programs and the only thing that makes sense is that I have a bug in IE and need to uninstall/reinstall. I would kind of like to avoid doing this.. Anyone have suggestions, or know what is actually wrong with my computer? Thanks

Cannot run Group Policy editor anymore
by Guest void.no.spam.com@gmail.com- 1 reply

I'm not sure what just happened, but I am no longer able to run gpedit.msc on my Windows XP SP2 laptop. When I try to run it, I get a "You do not have permission to perform this operation. Access is denied." error. This happens with 2 different Administrative users. I even rebooted and that didn't help. The only thing unusual that I did tonight is that I added a Deny everything permission for the Users group to the C:\WINDOWS \system32\GroupPolicy\User folder. But I have removed that permission now, and I still get the error message. Any idea what's wrong?

All I did was remove a drive
by Guest b11_- 5 replies

I removed a hard drive recently. The remaining installed drive did boot previously but now doesn't. During booting, I see the Wxp blue screen but I don't see the words "windows is starting up" which always appears before the desktop appears. While watching the Wxp blue screen, it appears that Wxp is repeated trying to boot but then I hear a beep after each attempt. Your suggestions please.

User Group Policy settings don't apply to Administrators?
by Guest void.no.spam.com@gmail.com- 2 replies

I've been playing around with Group Policy on my standalone Windows XP SP2 machine tonight, and found something peculiar. I made some changes under User Configuration: - I added a logon script and a logoff script - I changed the Browser Title (this makes it so that the IE title bar will display "Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by YOUR TEXT) - I set the "Remove My Documents icon from Start Menu" Administrative Template to Enabled Then I logged in as a normal user, and I confirmed that the logon script had been executed, the IE title bar showed the "provided by" text, and My Documents was not in the Start Menu. But when I logged back in as my user (who…

by Guest Ultra Kiasu- 0 replies

Now my original English version of Windows XP operating system now thinks it is a non-English, probably a Simplified Chinese version. This happened after I installed a english version of Chinese 3rd-party terminal service application accompanied with a terminal access device (similar to nComputing's L110). Now my Windows XP are still mostly English-based, but all the dialog buttons are in Chinese. My search in START button failed to work (complaining some files is missing). To resolve above, I need to use Windows Update, but it complaining that my Windows setup language is of different language... I really don't wish to re-install my entire PC with a fres…

The 60GB hard drive on my XP Home Edition PC came set up with C: 13.9GB, D: 36.8GB as shown in My Computer as Total Size. I am running out of space on the C: partition and would like to increase it by decreasing the space on the D: partition. Does anybody know if this can be done, and if so, how? Thank you for any helpful information. -- J150 -- J150
