Procedure to clean install Windows XP SP 1 and SP 2
by Guest JD_busi- 6 replies

What is the procedure to install Windows XP SP 2 if I am performing a clean install of Windows XP SP 1 first? Do I need to load the latest hardware drivers and run Windows Update before I install SP 2, or can I just load SP 2 immediately after installing XP SP 1? Should Anti-Virus and Internet Security software be installed after SP 2 or before?

by Guest Jethro- 2 replies

I have two machines, one on my left and one on my right. By design I have named the machines LEFT and RIGHT :<) The machines are LAN'ed together via a router and are able to share each others folders in their root directories just fine. So my network must be set up okay. I want to try using Remote Management, and am trying to set up MMC to do so. On LEFT machine, I brought up MMC (via command line) and went to 'Add/Remove Snap-in', clicked on 'Add', and added 'Local Users and Groups'. It asked me to name the computer I wanted to manage and so I wanted to choose machine RIGHT. So I chose 'Another computer' and 'browse'. I then clicked on 'Advance' a…

Why did computer companies phase out a reset button? I occasionally have to reset the computer but the only way I know is to remove and put back the plug. Is there another way? Thanks

Re: How do I format a CD-RW? I am trying to write files to a CD-RW fresh out of the wrapper. It says there are 0 files and 0 space. Also get an error message telling me to insert a disk. I know the drive works. It reads disks I previously have made on it. What gives? "Glen" wrote: > You only have to format if you want to use packet writing software. My customer writes me with an error which is constantly there. She writes: "A message comes on the screen after booting up. This message has a large red X in a cricle. In bold letters it says Windows-No disk Then below that it says Exception processing message c00000013 paramets and then three sets of numbers all beginning with 75. Below that are three buttons which state: Cancel, Try Again, Continue. None of these buttons work and the message stays in the middle of the screen. If I shut down the computer and then re-boot the message returns! Now what is the problem?" Not sure what is happening here, or she isn't explaining anything correctly to …

My wife's laptop won't boot up. I can access the files on the HD by using a linux livecd. That tells me that the file table is still OK so there must be something wrong with the boot sector. Either it got overwritten or it has gone bad. We can't find the original Windows CD that came with it. What can I do? Thanks for any help.
