automatic runas with password
by Guest maren- 2 replies

I'm trying to get a program to run as system login with administrative privileges without giving the user at the computer admin privileges. Putting a "runas" statement in the logon script that gives the program in question administrative privileges. However... ....I can't seem to find a way to add the proper administrative password in the runas.exe syntax. When the script is run, it prompts the user for the password for the administrative account it is attempting to run as. Obviously, we do not want our users to know the administrative passwords. We need runas to automatically enter the administrative username and password credentials so that the program will r…

Hi, I have a machine that when I log on as administrator the blinking system cursor is very wide, like about, 1/4". If I log on as another profile the blinking system cursor is fine. I've looked everywhere to set the cursor to its normail size but couldn't find it. Any ideas? Steve

In the car, CD-RW works. CD-R doesn't
by Guest Koebrah- 5 replies

The subject line pretty much sums it up. If I burn an audio CD on CD-RW it plays fine in my 2005 Altima. When I burn, only recently though, an audio CD on a CD-R (not re- writable) it doesn't work. I have some old CD-R's that play just fine. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. My PC/CD burner was having issues so I thought to replace it. A few months later and I'm still having the same issue. To top it off, it's becoming quite hard to find CD-RW's here in the local market. I have this one that I keep re-burning after I get sick of the current selection. Any ideas? I've tried going down to 4x burning speed. I've tried finalizing and not finalizing.…

"Windows Installer Service cannot be accessed" ?
by Guest Ritter197- 4 replies

I wanted to delete URGE and went to Settings, Control Panel, Add and Remove Programs and selected URGE. It then said that the Windows installer service could not be accessed. It thought I was in Safe mode (I was NOT) or something wrong with Windows XP. I then went to the MS website and wanted to download the latest (version 3.x something) of Windows Installer, but it said the version on my HP computer was newer and I did not need the download. What is going on? Thanks for your advice in advance.

I recently upgraded my pc from a P4 with h/t to a pentium 840ee. I am running windows xp sp2. Now I am experiencing a degrade in system performance. Hardware manager is showing the acpi multi-processor and system resources shows the four threads. I didnt reinstall windows when I did the upgrade. Could this be my problem? Is there anyway to fix this without reinstalling windows? Thank you in advance.

video card compatibility
by Guest Doc- 3 replies

I recently installed a new nVidia GeForce 7600GS 512MB graphics card and man does it rock! However, one of my absolute favorite older games; Crimson Skies, does not seem to be compatible with it. The only way it will run properly is in "software render" mode on the configuration page inside the game(640X480 resolution is positively unacceptable). When I try to use "primary display driver" I get multi-colored bars in all of the choices of the preferences page and the actual gameplay video is completely screwed up. Is there ANY way to rectify this situation?

policies to prevent installation
by Guest not smart enough- 1 reply

I was having trouble with Windows Installer popping up all the time ... and following advice found in one of these discussion groups, I made some type of change to WI to prevent it from doing so anymore. But now I can't install the new Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2007 - when I try, I get a message that says "M.O. Pro Plus 2007 encountered an error during setup." And it gives me a "close" button to push, and that's it! And then this morning I tried to install some Java Updates, and got a message that said "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation. Windows Installer." Please help!

Yet another person confused about $hf_mig$
by Guest mpysr- 2 replies

I have an old laptop with limited disk. Microsoft persuaded me to upgrade to Service Pack 2, but the process aborted with the message that there wasn't enough disk. (Started with 700 MG free, but that's not enough, apparently.) Here's the problem. I now have 150 MG less free space, and that appears to be due to growth in: C:/Windows/$hf_mig$/ I've looked around for information about this folder, but haven't gotten a clear answer. My understanding is that $hf_mig$ is for Service Pack 2 use. But I'm content to live, and take my chances, with the existing Service Pack 1. Can I remove all the folders inside $hf_mig$ ? That's the big question. H…

Drive is not opening
by Guest JKumar- 3 replies

My Pc (windows XP Professional) was infected with virus which was successfully removed by Installing AVG antivirus (Trial version). But after cleaning whenever I have tried to open any Drive from my computer by double click, it gives an error message like "windows can't find 'copy.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.” But the same can be easily opened by right click over any drive and then by selecting open. Please advise.
