The worst OS I've ever had
by Guest Knouen- 18 replies

Yep, Windows XP. It's the worst operating system I've ever had. By far. Upon start-up it sits there thrashign teh hard drive for a good five minutes or so before I can do anything. If I try to load ANY program, it does the same; more hard drive thrashing for a while. If I try to run a full-screen game, the hard drive goes crazy, then Windows crashes and reboots the computer. And this is all AFTER getting every recommended update. Sadly I am forced to use this POS due to my course requriements (we have to do some .net garbage), but it's very annoying. I have never seen such a bad OS.

XP Home, Drives don't "hook up hard" at logon
by Guest +Bob+- 5 replies
I have a laptop with XP-Home. When I log on, it does not "hit" the network drives to check and see if they are there. The same problem occurs returning from Standby - network drives are always hosed. The only way to get them to hook up, or know if they are even available, is to go into Windows Explorer and manually click on each connection (drive). Then they hook up. FYI - they will all show as "disconnected network drive" until I click on them. In fact, even if the Windows 2.3K server is down (that the shared drives are on), I won't know it until I go into Explorer and try to manually connect. There are no notifications in XP-Home (unlike win2k). This…

XP PRO SP2 Some websites display no java and or pictures. Fonts are displayed differently. Some websites return ERROR:(111) Connection refused. It started, when I got to a new location. Just wondering if this could be because of the network I'm on, or if its my laptop? Some of the sites: yahoo google myspace dslreports intel microsoft Other sites work as usual for a while. Then, as you click they "jumble". Checking my yahoo, as I opened yahoo it looked and performed normal. Then as I was deleting a string of emails, clicked on check mail button. The page "jumbled" all the fonts were changed and no pix or java loaded. Just the place holder with a lit…
