Using Windows Xp, Service Pack 2. I downloaded a file to install a game (it appeared on my desktop) and i had begun to run it. Part way through i terminated the main download and quit the downloader. Now I cant remove the initial download off my desktop, whenever i try to it says that it is in use and to close any programs using it and to retry. I have tried installing it and uninstalling (the main program) and using ctrl+alt+delete to no effect, ive tried deleting the processes but i dont understand what im doing well enough. Help.

Windows Update - Wrong Post.
by Guest Waz Up- 4 replies

G'day. I posted this into the wrong NG - Oops, sorry 'bout that! What is the protocol to report a "Bad Driver Update" from Windows Update Site? I always check updates and check them carefully before I download and install. However, today I downloaded a drvier update for my Dlink AirPlus Wireless adapter. After the download, the install began and the system went into a CONTINUOUS reboot. Safemode and Restore fixed it. I have all the driver details etc. But I think it prudent to report this. Thanks, Waz Up

My Network places not refreshing
by Guest Dale- 0 replies

Until a couple days ago "My Network Places" would refresh itself upon opening, showing other computers' shares on my network. For some reason it has stopped doing that. If I start at "View Network Computers" and drill down from there, the other computers show and can be accessed. Anyone know what I might have done inadvertently to stop it from showing the other computers that it knows are there? -- Dale

Startup
by Guest PeterB- 4 replies

edMy computer is slow to boot on XP Pro - SP2 As I have defragged and clean all discs, I am sure there are too many items loading at Startup. I believe I recall a way to display all applications loading at Startup, and then to check a box that allows you to temporarily stop that application from loading without making a permanent change to the registry. Help?

Is there a page somewhere elaborating the differences between XP Backup and SyncToy? Is there any way to use Synctoy without having to install that .net frame? It's an awful lot of MB's given I don't need it for anything else..... Any other recommendations for any other free backup software? Thanks for the help, Janet

An empty folder keeps apearing on my desktop. I was able to delete it, but after a while, it will reappear again. I keep deleting it, but it just keeps appearing on my desktop after a while. I've tried using DelinvFile and MoveOnBoot to move the folder, I've also tried to boot in safe mode and delete the folder. However, the folder just keeps appearing on my desktop. Any other suggestions on how I can remove this folder ?

Delete Windows 98 Service Pack 1?
by Guest Hank- 1 reply
I have Windows XP at home. When I clicked on Windows 98 Service Pack 1 in Add/Remove, it says it will restore a previous version of Windows 98 so I never did it. I want to keep Windows XP! How do I safely remove all Windows 98 files without disturbing my Windows XP? Add/Remove doesn't say how many MB would be freed up.
