Automatic Updates repeatedly installing KB948109
by Guest Tritous- 12 replies

Well after reading the KB article about problems with repeatedly installing the same update (and finding it unhelpful), sending a mail to MS customer support (and getting back a blank response and a link to the KB, not even to an article, just generally to the support webside which is an insult) I come here hoping someone has an answer. Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109) Well it's been installed about 6 times now. 4 times through automatic updates, 2 times through the updates website and each time has suceeded. However, it still isnt registering that it is installed and still wants it. I suspect the downloaded file may b…

by Guest sanjay- 0 replies

Hi, I had to reinstall WinXp-home due to technical problems. After reinstalling, I cannot access the voice playback (control panel>sound&voice>voice tab, test sound etc..), all the options in most of the tabs shaded gray i.e. cannot be activated! Onboard audi is enabled and is working. When I try to play any music, sound etc. I get the message - " Cannot not locate Dpvsetup.exe file, use install/uninstall to load the file"! I looked up Mcrosoft Knowledgebase - and an acticle advises "to move the hardware acceleration bar to full" and then adjust the registry. But there is noway I can access the hardware acceleration as every option is "grayed…

Daughter's PC, XP/SP2, Media Player won't start, missing DLL. No internet connection so cannot update to a newer version. Is there a standalone download for WMP 11 which will install without that connection or alternatively how can I fix WMP 9, perhaps from XP CD? -- Kenny Cargill

Error-checking
by Guest Dan- 1 reply

Upon right-clicking on a drive in "My Computer" and selecting Properties, we are presented with a box with four tabs..."General" "Tools" "Hardware" and "Security". In the Tools tab, we have the option to check the disk for errors. I do this about once a month. In the check disk options, I do not select anything and then hit Start. It only takes a few minutes and then a dialogue box pops up simply indicating the the task is completed. Does this mean there were no errors found? I find no way of viewing a report.

Calling Card w/Fax Console problem
by Guest blkdmd- 0 replies
I have Windows XP home with fax console--love it. Problem: No long distance service on my land line--I use calling cards. I need to send a long distance fax using my calling card and can't figure out how to set a dialing rule (or manual dial would be my goal) which allows for the "prompts", i.e., enter "2" to speak English and then pause to enter my calling card pin number. Any clues? I'm fine with local faxes but any long distance ones, I'm at a loss.

This started happening after I was trying to fix an install error I kept getting from Microsoft updates for .NET Framework. I went and downloaded the latest for .NET Framework. Today I was trying to fix things so I thoght if I could just uninstall all the .NET Framework and then reinstall from windows. So I went into control panel and uninstalled them. Then windows tries to download .NET Framework VS 2.0 again and gets an error, that says Security update for microsoft .NETFramework Version 2.0 KB928365 failed to install. Can't run Adobe Shockwave Player
by Guest PT- 6 replies
I have recently downloaded some videos with a .FLV extension, calling for Adobe Shockwave Player. But when I try to run them, Windows XP Home can't locate the appropriate program. But I HAVE installed it. The installer claimed it was done And when I click Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, Adobe Shockwave appears (although curiously with no size data). And when in IE7 I click Tools | Folder Options, and attempt to create an association with .FLV and Adobe Shockwave Player, the program doesn't show up in the list. Finally, per the Adobe website, the program should be installed into a folder Windows | System32 | Adobe. But that folder does…

by Guest pjm- 1 reply

I am running Windows Server 2003 on my server and Windows XP on 7 desktops that are networked. The time on the desktops synchronize with the server since they are members of the domain. I have a non-Microsoft program that occasionally requires me to change the date on the desktops. Is there anyway I can change the date on a domain desktop and not have it automatically synch with the server?

copy photo file or folder to cd
by Guest shaun- 0 replies
In "my pictures" when I try to "copy to cd" the cd writing wizard begins and tells me the process takes about 8-9 minutes. Near the end the last 2-3 minutes takes closer to 5 then it kicks out my cd and tells me there is an "error in the writng process". I copied some photos once before so I know my cd-rw drive is enabled. I've also tried right clicking on the photo file and using the Select Send To..CD drive option . It tells me there is no cd in the drive. I've tried numerous cd and cd-rw disks. Am I missing a step or do I have a bug? Thanks for any help.
