Hi, I have three Win 2000 pro PC's that I'm replacing with three XP Pro machines and need some directions to online tutorials or advice from anyone here with experience in transferring files and settings from the (W2000) computer to the new XP Pro computer. Each of the W2000 machines are presently on a office network running Widows 2000 Server. I'm looking for a straight-forward, simple approach, if that's possible. Will an Imaging/Backup program, (such as Acronis) help me achieve the solution? I appreciate your time, Thanks, David.

KB936357 Win XP security update "breaks" OE6
by Guest pdfero- 2 replies

Have installed KB936357 three times and each time it causes OE6 to work improperly: 1. Will not download messages or even search all my accounts when first started. Have close window, reopen before it downloads. Then, at some point later, it stops downloading until I restart OE6. (It goes through the motions for some of the accounts but doesn't find anything until restarted.) 2. The reaction to clicks slows. 3. Cannot move more than one message from the Hotmail account to the inbox without getting an error message that OE has been corrupted and run a program such as Scandisk. As soon as I back out KB936357, OE6 works fine again.

Deleting large files
by Guest Daryl- 6 replies

Hi, When I try to delete a large file such as a video mpg file (it doesn't appear to happen with small files), I appear to have successfully deleted the files but, when I look at the containing folder in explorer - the file appears to still be there! If I then try to delete it again - it gives me an error message so it would appear that the file has actually gone. However, the disk space if not freed up. Upon reboot, the file has gone but how can I prevent this behaviour - I know it's not by default as this does not happen on my laptop. My hard drive is an NTFS disk. Thanks, Kroma

Hi all... Kind of a strange question, but I need help As soon as possible.. I am using XP, SP2.. I have _2_ seperate networking devices enabled, one is a wired ethernet port which has network 1 into it, and I also have a wireless card that is connected to an entirely seperate modem/network within close range.. Right now, the way I am telling windows which device to send/receive on is by typing: route add 192.168.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1 route change 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 192.168.2.1 metric 1 In turn, this will force all my internet traffic through the 192.168.2.1 network instead of the 192.168.1.1 net, but while leaving the 192.168.1.1 …

Offline Files Sync Problems
by Guest David H.- 0 replies

We have a number of new desktop PCs running Windows XP, and several of them seem to be doing offline file synchronization without ever having been asked to do so. These machines are stationary and never used offline, so we don't want them sync'ing. Can you help me understand why this starts happening, and what would be the best way to reverse and prevent it? Even more bizarre: One user was not logging off at night, and somehow the computer thought he was working offline. As a result the files he created or edited from day to day never got synced up to his home folder on the server, and were not being backed up! What could cause that? (Network is AD,…

Problems disconnecting usb storage device
by Guest Steve- 6 replies

Hello, I'm working with Win XP Home (SP2). Sometimes I have problems disconnecting my usb storage devices properly. Here's what happens. Although I follow the proper procedure -- by clicking on the icon in the system tray, and then selecting the device in the dialogue box that appears -- I often will get an error message stating that it is impossible to disconnect the device because it is still in use, or (I think) because another programme the device uses is still in use. However, the device itself is clearly closed, as is Windows Explorer. No other programmes are open on the desktop. It seems there is some kind of conflict which blocks the shut do…

STOP 7E on bootup/startup of Windows XP Home
by Guest eljainc- 3 replies

Hello, I have a Windows XP Home box that had a STOP 7E message on the screen when I came into work this morning. No new programs or hardware have been added recently. I ran a MEMCHECK test and let it run several passes: no errors reported. This machine is running WinXP SP2. The error happens when booting up (during the graphical portion where the green/yellow blip is going from left to right. There are no drivers associated with the BSOD 7E error. I tried safe mode and that also causes a BSOD. The last driver that is loaded/ shown on the screen is MUP.SYS How can I fix this problem? Thanks. Mike McWhinney elja, Inc.

Problem with network printer
by Guest Charlie- 0 replies

I recently installed a HP6980 printer on my home network. I can print from two computers but not from one. I am running with a Linksys router and switch and have Windows XP on all computers. All the applications I try to print from give me different error messages but basically say they can't print because of an error with the printer. The error messages don't really say anything specific. The HP install went fine with no errors or issues. I can see and configure the printer in the control panel. I can ping the IP address of the printer. All other computers on the network can print to the printer. There are no listings in the Event Logs. I have stopped a…
