Messenger Service Pop Up
by Guest litllammy- 8 replies

When I sign on computer a window comes up in the center from "messenger service" saying it is a message from System To Alert. Stop!! Immediate attention required!! Windows has found critical system errors. Download registry cleaner from http://www.clean32.com. Failure to act now may lead to data loss and corruption. There are a couple of other boxes that also come up saying the same thing with other site addresses. How do I get these to stop and is it a genuine message from windows or just a scam??? I have uninstalled everything on my computer and then reinstalled windows xp, and this still comes up. Any idea what I need to do to stop this fro…

"Unknown device" in Device Manager for Intel DG965RY
by Guest Robert S- 14 replies
I've just done a clean install of XP on a DG965RY motherboard twice. I've got a Samsung HD401LJ HD and a Radeon X1950 video card. Each time I have a question mark with "Other devices -> Unknown device" in my device manager. I've installed all the drivers from the Intel and ATI websites on both occasions and get the same result. Any idea where to start - I've done "Scan for Hardware Changes" several times, but it does not detect the device. TIA

In Windows XP, I've got automatic updates disabled (System Properties | Automatic Updates, selected "Turn Off Automatic Updates") However, Sysinternal's Process Explorer shows that shortly after boot, the windows automatic updates program WUAUCLT.EXE runs. Is there something I'm missing, or something else I should be selecting to disable automatic updates??? Thank You, Pat

by Guest New bie- 4 replies

I am using Windows XP Pro with SP2 and FireFox V2.0.0.4 Recently I have started facing a peculiar problem. My Net connection is breaking down repeatedly. If I am surfing a site, I can do it. But if I want to go to another site I get the message firefox cannot find the requested server. I have to repeatedly press enter to get to the site. Sometime this also does'nt help. This happens omly when I am trying to go (connect)to a site. Suppose during this time if I am downloading something my downloading continues without a break - which shows there is nothing wrong with my Net connection. The problem is not with my incoming connection but with the…

Creating User Accounts
by Guest izlopez- 5 replies

Hi!, I am new to "creating users account on Windows XP Pro, SP2", well I am new in any Operating System. I am trying to create a User Account, as a Power User, since we are installing an old application that only works under Administrative privileges accounts (I assume, because it works under the Administrator User). I created a limited account, but the application doesn't work, so I tried to create a Power User, but when I access at the User Accounts, it only let me choose either Administrators or limited accounts. Then I went to the Administrative Tools icon under Control Panel, Under Computer Management, Local Users and Groups, look for the Power Users …

Dear Moderator/Members I have an XP Professional with SP2, P-IV 3.0 GhZ, 256 MB RAM, 80 GB HDD PC. I am trying to add Microsoft Lifewebcam 1.0 Hardware to this pc. Recovering misallocated space
by Guest dewey99- 6 replies

WinXP - I found out I was running out of HD space, so I started digging to find files that I can free up. When I right-click on C:\Winnt in windows explorer and click on properties, it shows 38 GB in 37349 files. However, if I select all contents of Winnt, then right-click and hit properties, it shows 6.9 GB in 35593 files. I'm not so worried about the file count mismatch, but the size mismatch has me dead in the water. I have a shared folder on the network that attempts to sync up each time I log in - I killed that process this morning (had to hard reboot), so I'm pretty sure that has something to do with my situation. I assume it's a bad file allocation, b…
