How do I find handle of the taskbar
by Guest Sanjeev Sharma- 3 replies

I have rather two questions. First, where do I query technical stuff like this(Q on Subject) about WIndows? And second the question itself. I need to get handle for the taskbar but I don't know its window name so as to use 'FindWindow'. Anyother way? The code may be specific to WinXP and may be coded in VB or C++.

Re: My Music I am having the same problem. It occurs when link my computer to my XBOX 360 as a media extender and the music folder is synced. Typing in this command did not help. point32.exe, a magnifier, intermittently pops up
by Guest Richard- 6 replies

>From time to time, I suddenly have a magnifier pop up. I've found it intrusive, at best. Finally, I discovered that point32.exe is the culprit and I was able to kill it in Task Manager. Does anyone know an easy way to prevent it from being launched in the first place? (it must be some keystrokes or mouse clicks that inadvertently brings it up.) I'm running WinXP/SP2.

Spyware Creating tmp files, ie Win1.tmp Win2.tmp
by Guest JCO- 4 replies

Running WindowsXP-Pro SP2 and all updates. My son's computer has something running that I can't figure it out. In the tmp directory, the files Winx.tmp gets created where "x" can be any digit. It starts as "1" and increments forever. I've had over 2000 files that I deleted. Win1.tmp Win2.tmp Win3.tmp ...... Win2066.tmp .... Each file shows up as 0 kbs and when I open them... they are empty. What I've done: Ran Norton SystemWorks / Antivirus and deleted all known issues. Ran SpyBot and have cleaned out all known issues. Ensured that HKLM-Run & HKCU-Run is cleaned (stripped) to a minimum that I know is required. Deleted all tmp folders and web t…

Indexing Service for Power Users in WinXP ?
by Guest prubin@equilter.com- 0 replies

Is it possible to allow Power Users to use the Indexing Service in Windows XP? Power Users can enable the service, but when you launch the Indexing Service via ciadv.msc as a Power User, you can't do much of anything (add catalog, add directories, etc) by default. Any ideas?

When You Install-Over Does it Know the Installation Key?
by Guest jim evans- 5 replies

About a year ago I made a SP2 installation disk from my original XP disk. I must have thrown the original XP disk away so I would not get confused and try to use it, but I had written the installation key on it and no longer can find the key. Will the SP2 disk recognize the key from the current installation when I try to refresh the installation by doing what I call install-over? jim

Auto backup during shutdown
by Guest Backups during Shutdown- 1 reply

We have multiple staff machines some in an NT Network and moving towards a 2003 Server network. We know how to use log on scripts to map drives. We could use them to do a back up of their My Docs but are concerned about the time it would take. We would like to script the back up to take place during the Shut down process. Much the same way the MS installs Windows updates. The user shuts down, the back up begins and the user walks away with the PC shutting down on completion. I cannot find where to do this. I suspect there is a shut down script somewhere. Thanks Kevin Wods Granite State College, New Hampshire

Xp Home: access is denied
by Guest awag1- 7 replies
I accidently dragged a folder into one of those Microsoft updater folders where the contents can't be accessed. The message is Access is denied. I used a restore point to get the folder back to the correct location, but I can't access anything in either folder. I tried booting into safe mode and changing user access to the files to "full" for all users, and now I can delete files, but still can't open any of them. The message is Access is denied. No file attributes are set. The folder isn't shared. I can rename the folders, but not copy the files or folders. I'm running XP (stupid) Home sp2 with Norton Protection. Help?

Automatic Shutdown and error message
by Guest Paul Roche- 3 replies

I have been receiving a fatal error message when I try to send email (Outlook in Office Pro 2003). The message reads “DCOM server process launcher terminated unexpectedly". I then receive a box to send the notification to MS and then two more boxes with something about NT Authority/System. I researched the issue and thought/think it is a variant of the Win32.Poza worm but mine only happens when sending email. I ran the cleaning program provided by me virus scan vendor but that didn't find anything. Has anyone heard of this? If so, what is it and how do I fix it?
