by Guest Jorge- 0 replies

Hi all, I'm running Windows Xp Professional on my company notebook. When I'm shutting down the PC, there are severall programs, I don't know, if not responding, but there are messages coming to the desktop, like: ..NET-BroadcastEventWindow did not close; hpqimzone.exe did not close; yahooWidgetEngine did not close; Sometimes thereĀ“s an error with "dw20.exe" I've already run Windows Live OneCare. The only thing it found, was in registry. It fixed it, but the messages still coming on shut down. Anyone knows how to fix it?

Windows XP suddenly asking for user passwords?
by Guest rich1lenore- 2 replies
This is the 3rd time this has happened in the last year. Suddenly at the Welcome Screen all the user accounts are being prompted for passwords. There are no passwords set. I have in the past reset the screensaver and power options to no password, and run the control userpasswords2 to change the password option in the Admin control panel. How and why are these settings getting changed, and how can I keep it from happening again? OK, I may have thought of an answer to the "why." I was moving some files from one user profile to another, and right after that I tried to switch user profiles. When I got to the Welcome Screen, that's when I started getting t…

Admin Pack
by Guest Ron Hinds- 1 reply

Where do I find what used to be called the "Admin Pack" in Windows 2000 for XP? I'm referring to utilities that allow you to manage an Active Directory domain, DNS, etc., from a XP Professional system. In Windows 2000 Professional, those utilities were located in an installation called ADMINPAK.MSI located on the CD. I found what I thought was that toolset on the XP CD, but it turned out to be a set of command-line utilities the purpose of which I am unsure.

Cannon MP600 - Scanner problems
by Guest bwilliamp- 3 replies

I bought this all in one the other day and the printer works without problems. Having problems with the scanner though. When I turn it on I get Cannot install this hardware An error occurred during the installation of the device The required section was not found in the INF. I've tried using different ports & cables and re-installing One weird thing I've now found out is that when I goto the scanners & camera section in control panel, when I select "Add Device" nothing happens. Anyone out there have a clue? Thank you

newb - XP install disk says there are no hard drives
by Guest djneill@iwebworks.com- 2 replies

Hi, Background: I am a newb. I have a pretty good Dell machine (3 GHz, 1 GB RAM) that I just don't use much, and I had used a Ubuntu live disk to make a dual-boot. Now, I am selling it to a friend and I was going to try to format it. Well, I decided to try to boot from the XP CD and after getting to the 3-way: install, recovery console, exit, I went ahead and tried recover but it says there are no hard drives detected. Same if I try to just install XP. But in the BIOS, the hard drive is there. And it works fine booting to either XP or Ubuntu still. I googled and found that the SATA HDD drivers might need to be obtained on a floppy, and have it ready…

No dial tone using Network (Dial-up) Connection
by Guest thomas- 2 replies
There is no dial tone (or dialing) when I attempt to go online with a Network (Dial-Up) Connection. (A 633 error message appears.) I have been through the Modem Troubleshooter, but everything seems to be in order. The modem is enabled. Under Modem - Properties, Device Status says,"This device is working properly" The modem will dial and send faxes just fine. (I tested this again right before posting.) I am using a Dell Inspiron notebook with Windows XP Service Pack 2. I have added no new hardware. The only things I did right before this problem (and the 633 error) occurred were: 1) Use and configure the Fax Console for the first time and send a fax. (I …

Can VPN but not access any machines
by Guest Taras_96- 2 replies

Hi all, I'm having a problem where I can connect to a client's VPN 100% of the time, but can only RDP into or ping their local machines maybe 30% of the time (it seems to have periods where it's working and then periods where it's not working). I'm not after so much a solution, because I realise that this is nowhere near enough information for someone to even begin to try to figure out what's wrong (although if you have a solution that would be fine :) ), but more tips on how/where to even START looking. Also, we VPN into a number of other clients' machines, and both the VPN and being able to RDP into their machines works 100% of the time (we are experienci…
