by Guest aaronep@pacbell.net- 1 reply

I have read about attributes of Computer Associates DNA Migrator to move applications and data from old XP computer to a new computer. If anyone reading this has used it, please advise as to how the hookup is made from one computer to another. Is it by attaching the hard drive from the old computer to the new computer, either by installing or using usb port enclosure for the old hard drive? all replies welcomed! Aaron

by Guest bm- 9 replies

A friend has just bought a new Dell PC and ordered it with XP and not Vista. When the PC arrived it was fitted with Vista so he phoned the help line who said they would supply CDs to install XP. They duly arrived but not being very OK with computers he phoned the help line for assistance in loading XP. The assistance was given by an Indian Gentleman who he could not understand both from a language and technical point of view so he gave up Is there a clear set of written instructions available that he could follow? Service Pack 2 Error

I have the common "Access is denied" error from attempting to install SP2. See, uninstalled it today after having problems of installing IE7 thinking that if I were to reinstall SP2, I'd have IE7 by default. Well, I've been at the computer for hours, trying to follow the tutorial that Microsoft has about this "Acess is denied" error and how to fix it, but it has gotten me nowhere. I don't know what else to do. Though, I think it has to do something with the registry. Can I delete something off the registry from the past time that I had installed SP2? What could another problem me that is prompting the "Access is denied" error. Thanks. -- Take Ca…

a general moan, so excuse the long rambling on here... but also in case anyone has a better way... Curses !!! here we go again... it's almost becoming an annual event! Having to reinstall Windows and all applications, because the system is slowing up, applications are slower to burst into life after the initial CLick on the icon. internet Explorer is one that Is noticably slower to show up on screen! Yet having just assisting in setting up a new Pc - and watching the speed of boot up~ Aaah if only it could be like this always! I Wonder if M'soft has ever thought of (if it IS the registry), having some kind if registry splitting - one purely for Bootu…

XP & Apache.exe
by Guest Roland A.- 2 replies

In Task Manager, I've noticed a prgm. running, Apache.exe. Actually, two instances are running. I've searched and found this: C:\WINDOWS.0\Prefetch\APACHE.EXE-1BDF0C46.pf Suspecting the file's purpose, I compressed it into a .rar file and deleted the original. But still, everytime I reboot, the two instances of Apache.exe are seen in Task Manager. Is this file part of windows? R.A.

That is not a bug, it is XP's intuitive filename sorting*. The order is 8,9,60. You can …

Intel Dual Core Processors Advance System Clock When Playing Sounds Options
by Guest curt.goodhart@navy.mil- 0 replies

This is an amazing and troubling problem. It seems to relate to Windows XP and dual core processors. Simply put, playing a sound advances the system clock. I've seen extremes of about 6 to 10 seconds per minute. I suspect the problem is XP/Intel/MS related. Our PC is a double dual core Intel Xeon: a Dell Precision 690 (which has 2 Dempsey processors, Xeon 5050 series). We are running XP Pro OS 've also seen this on another offbrand PC with a Core 2 processor. This does not happen on non-dual core processor machines. Executing a "playsound" command (which is in the winmm.dll) instead of beep has the same effect (I suspect Beep probably executes a playso…

Posted on Help_and_support ng on 6/28 without response. Hoping someone here can help. Win XP SR2 Tried running MSINFO32. Received a response "CAN'T COLLECT INFORMATION" "Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing." Within 'Services,' WMI shows it is running. How do I resolve this? FWIW, running services.msc results in . . . nothing. No apps appear to start. No errors. nutin.
