Still a problem with files transfer...
by Guest Sirius- 1 reply

I am trying to use the files and settings transfer wizard, and on the new computer I get the following message: "The location that you specified does not contain stored information. Please type a valid folder path into the edit box. If you entered a path to a folder on a removable disk, the disk must be in the drive." I can see the collected data with my eyes, so why does not the new pc? I followed the steps as instructed, so what am I doing wrong? Any help would be great. Thank you.

Here's a poser. When I activate the HT in BIOS on my 3.06 P4 northridge (recently upgraded from a non HT CPU) it causes the keyboard to effect other programs, specifically the music from any media based application. The symptoms are like one key is overloading whatever cache and causes the music to stutter. When HT is off, things are back to normal. I have the most recent BIOS, XP updates, keyboard drivers, etc. Any ideas? -- Mattu

I have XP Home on my computer. It is a legal copy. It came installed on computer and always will be there even if reformated. I was adding a port to my network settings and it said I needed to restart my computer before they would take effect. I restarted and windows dynamic update came up. It started installing XP Pro with out any disk in the drive. I dont even own a XP disk for this to happen. Well there was no stopping this so called upgrade from happening so I waited it to complete. Once completed and rebooted it let me know that it wasnt even a legal copy of XP. Now how in the hell does something like this happen? I tried to do a system restore but…

OT: XP seems to have stopped responding to scripts
by Guest Martin C- 0 replies

This may not be the right forum for this question, but I was not quite sure where to post it. This has occurred recently with no updates having been made to the PC. It was first noticed with BitComet, my torrent download app, which was giving scripting errors all the time. I updated it to the latest release, but the problem remains. Whenever I change view in the app, I get a script error dialog. The other thing I noticed is that while I was looking for BitComet using Google, the search button would not work via a <return> key press. This always used to work before. I had to use the mouse to click on the search button to instigate the search. …

question about bailing out of a drag-n-drop action
by Guest sobriquet- 3 replies
Hello. One of the things I dislike about xp (and previous versions of windows) is that sometimes it's difficult to figure out how to cancel an action. Like when you accidentally press the right mouse button somewhere, you can press escape to bail out from the menu. Now sometimes it happens people accidentally press the left mouse button on a file or folder in the explorer, they drag around with the items and they don't want to release the mouse button somewhere and actually copy or move files. My method of bailing out in that case is to find a location on the screen where I get an icon that indicates the contents can't be copied there and I release the mouse but…

BSOD because of AppInit_DLLs
by Guest Aesmade- 1 reply
After using the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\AppInit_DLLs key to load a DLL into all processes, I now get a BSOD on startup. I've fixed this before by using the Windows XP CD to open the command prompt and delete the DLL, but I don't have the Windows CD with me right now. So, my question is, is there any other way to have Windows or even the command prompt open without loading the AppInit_DLLs? Thanks in advance.

Installer continually retries
by Guest upcomingevent- 1 reply

I am having the Windows Installer problem where the installer tries over and over again to install SOMETHING. I have no idea what is being installed. 1) Is there some installer feature to list all products installed and the success of the process? 2) Can I just disable this? 3) Any other suggestions? Are there any products which can solve this annoying problem?
