Add program to: "What do you want windows to do" list?

I installed a freeware DVD player and it plays my DVDs just fine. When I insert a DVD into the drive I get the "What do you want windows to do" prompt, but my player is not listed. I am selecting "Take no action" and then I manually launch my player. I don't want to disable the prompt, I would like to add my player to the "What do you want windows to do" list. Is this possible? When I go to services.msc and try to start Net Logon, I can't find it. It looks like it was deleted some how... So I did some research and did not find anything that says anything about that !!! Starting program after login screen and before desktop loads
by Guest Sanjeev Sharma- 1 reply

I need to get my program to run just after the log in and when the desktop is shown first. The timing is important! My program should run just after the log in screen unloads(when only the wallpaper is visible) and before the desktop items loads and show in Win XP. Tried using service but my program needs to run under the current user rather than under "SYSTEM". Putting in Startup folder and "...\Run" key in registry also didn't help 'cause they loaded the program too late. Could 'wlnotify.dll' have done the job? Or please suggest me anyother way.

I need to get my program to run just after the log in and when the desktop is shown first. In my case, the timing is important. The program should load just after the log in screen unloads (when only the wallpaper is visible) and before the desktop fully loads in XP. Tried using service but my program also needs to run under the current user rather than under "SYSTEM". Placing my program under startup folder or defining a key for it in "HKLM\Windows\...Run" also didn't work 'cause it loads my program too late. Could 'wlnotify.dll' have been used?

I was able to buy from BUY COM an hp computer that still comes with Windows XP. My current (old computer) has windows xp. >From what I know, there are several methods of transferring files and applications from the old computer to the new. One is using either Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image to CLONE the contents of the old computer's drive to the new computer's drive. Another method that I am reading about is using a program made by Laplink called PC MOVER to transfer files and applications from old computer to new. Any opinions as to which is the better way of making the transfers? All opinions welcomed. The new computer arrives in a few days …

Slow Boot up
by Guest milkman2283- 7 replies

I have XP Version 5.1 Service Pack2 OS, Nortons Anti-Virus, and serveral programs installed. Most of the Media Center Games and programs have been uninstalled. It seems to take much too long for the PC to boot up, and when it boots, after a few moments, the screen turns black and then resumes for a few seconds before it's completly booted. What services are esential for the PC to run properly in the Start MSconfig-Services. I tried stopping on several and then the Nortons stopped working. I restarted them. What other services can I stop? Is there a link that explains what each service does? Thanks -- milkman

XP Client isolated from rest of domain.
by Guest Zonky- 1 reply

I have a SBS network with XP clients. One of these clients has suddenly stopped responding to Remote Desktop. That is, i can remote desktop out from this client, but can't remote desktop to it from other clients or the sbs server. Furthermore, while i can access all normal network services from the desktop, i can't access the desktop's C$ share remotely. From that client i can telnet to the localhost port 3389 and it sits there (conenction is opened). Remotely the connection is just timing out. When i disable the Windows firewall, it has no effect. I've also turned on logging on the firewall, and i can't see any dropped connections when it is ac…

Cannot make files "offline"
by Guest refurbmike- 6 replies

I'm setting up a notebook and trying to set-up "offline files." I have enabled Offline Files in the Folder Options and checked all the boxes. According to all the manuals, the next step would be to select the desired directory and choose "Make Available Offline" or something to this extent from the File Menu. This option is not availbe. I've tried selecting the entire network share/drive, a folder on the share, and a file on the share. Nothing. Any ideas?
