My "other" PC, (XP Home ed. SP3, Asrock AliveNF6G/VSTA/M/ASR|x2 6000 cpu | 2x1gb OCZ PC2 200mhz 4-4-4-12), ....I chose Standby, and, (unlike putting my "main" PC in standby, where hd's power down but, psu and fans keep running), after just a couple of seconds it powered almost right down ! ...much like "hibernate" but, without the hiberfil.sys progress bar as the RAM snapshot is written to hard disk. Obviously RAM contents are maintained in this "Standby" state... It would only awake from that 'Standby' state by a mouse left-click, (which is fine), but, LAN connection to router would not recover until a reboot. I checked to make sure that "Allow thi…

Remote connection
by Guest Miha- 5 replies

Hi Is there any 3rd party applications that will allow me to remotely connect to WindowsXP machine via HTTPS (SSL) like TS Gateway in Win2k8? I have a WindowsXP machine behind SOHO firewall that has blocked VPN (PPTP,IPSec) ports, so the only way to connect to this computer is via HTTPS? I'm looking for some kind of service that will be installed on this WinXP box, so that I could connect via HTTPS to it from outside anytime? Any ideas how to do this? Regards,Miha

XP Memory Issue
by Guest deutscher4@hotmail.com- 2 replies

I have a problem with XP that at first I thought was a memory issue but now I'm not sure. What happens is after using XP for a while I can't open any new programs or new tabs in a browser or even right click on the desktop. Attempting these things will give no response. If I close one or two programs then things return to normal for a short while, until the issue returns and I need to close more programs. This continues until the only option left is to restart, which fixes the problem for a few hours. At first I though XP was failing to clear its memory which become full over time. However, the system resources are mostly free and I tried using a shortcut to …

External USB drive looses connection during transfer
by Guest Graaben- 8 replies

I have win XP SP3 and a Verbatim external hard disk (1TB). During backup to the drive or transfering of many files it "hangs" and say "Can't find the file...". I can then still see the drive in explorer but the volume name is gone and the size reporting 0 Byte. And it is unaccessible. When I restart it it works again. Single file transfers is generally ok, but not many. ....and...it works quite alright in a Vista laptop so the drive itself is ok. Solutions?

I realize that this is slightly off topic, but does anyone know what type of format Windows uses when using a TV Tuner card while connecting to normal cable TV via coaxial cable? I am looking at buying a TV Tuner card, but it states that it only supports NTSC video format only.

I'm probably going to start some heated discussions (I may want to talk about politics instead) but I'm interested to read about anyone's experiences with enterprise (not stand-alone please) anti-virus solutions from Norton, Sophos, Mcaffee, etc. Thanks, ~alan

Sorting the list of "all programs." How do I do it?
by Guest rsl18@sbcglobal.net- 5 replies

I hit the "Windows key" There is an "All Programs" green arrowhead. The displayed list does not seem to me to be in any sequence that I can discern. Partially by date of installation, perhaps, as the most recently installed programs seem to be at the end of the list. I do want to have the listing in alphabetical order. How do I sort this listing>

Setup does not continue after XP preinstall and reboot
by Guest mugentuner- 8 replies

I was trying to do a clean install of xp pro with a new HD and I let XP setup format the disc and copy all of its setup files e.t.c. When rebooting the pc, the Hard drive does not boot up to continue with the install. I've checked the boot order of the BIOS e.t.c., but it is just stuck on initial startup and will not boot. Any ideas? I've used fdisk and checked the Hard drive and the file structure looks to be in place and set as the active partition. Any help appreciated.
