0xc0000005 Recycle Bin exception error: It's baaaaack...
by Guest Opinicus- 0 replies
Using WinXP with all updates etc in place. Lately I've started getting the 0xc0000005 error again increasingly more frequently when I double-click on the Recycle Bin or do a right-click / Open. Right-click "Explore" and "Empty" cause no problems. Didn't KB938828 fix this? Has anyone else started seeing this behavior again? -- Bob http://www.kanyak.com

Delayed audio input and Mic In problems
by Guest Bidski- 1 reply

Sorry if im posting in the wrong area here. Im experiencing a problem that is boggling my mind on biblical proportions. I have a Gigabyte GA-M56S-S3 motherboard with Realtek ALC888 Audio Codec (Realtek HD Audio) onboard sound card. I have 2 problems which may or may not ne related (most probably not related). Firstly, my Mic In port (both on the front and the rear) produce a distorted and ever repeating noise whenever a signal is applied and i am unable to source where this sound is coming from or where it originated from. This has only recently shown up and nothing has changed in the system either software or hardware wise. Secondly, the "Line In" au…

System Restore - changing data?
by Guest Terry Pinnell- 6 replies
I've just realised that System Restore actually ALTERS data, i.e adds duplicate folders. Is that correct? Has this always been the case? Or is it just on my newish XP Pro PC, as against my old XP Home system? Surely that screws up the whole concept, which I'd thought was to backup/restore just the REGISTRY? -- Terry, East Grinstead, UK

Limited User Account has too much access to computer
by Guest SteveParks- 2 replies
Hello to anyone with the knowledge! I'm using XP Home Svc pack 2. My first problem is that I would like the access of more folders to be restricted to limited user accounts on my computer. I don't understand why in the sharing tab (under properties) of some folders I can check "make this folder private" and in other folders, this is not checkable or uncheckable. I would think that any folder on the Administrator's account should be denied access to a Limited account, not just the Administrator's My Docs folder. My second problem and the reason why I'm here is that I have an external hard drive connected by USB. I can go into the Guest user account, and h…

I have three separate user accounts. On two of them the "transparent" and "shadow" features for the desktop icons is working and even though the settings are the same for all three accounts, on the third the text is surrounded by color and the transparent & shadow feature will not work no matter what settings I modify.

Thanks to R. McCarty, Defrag working again!

Subject: Re: Defrag no longer works! 7/24/2008 11:25 AM PST Thank you R. McCarty, everything is working as normal once again but without sp3. You were quite correct when you wrote: When you installed SP3 it migrated the MMC (Microsoft Management Console) to version 3.0. Once you removed SP3 the system doesn't roll back the MMC. The simplest solution is to update MMC for use with Service Pack 2. Information & Downloads here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907265 Simple solution to major poblem - thanks once again - Andrew

SP3 anomaly
by Guest ManyBeers- 3 replies

Most of you on here are aware of the taskbar infotip problem where occasionally they will hide behind the taskbar. The fix I have used is to click Start/Programs and right click any program and choose sort-by-name. After installing SP3 a couple of hours ago i noticed this fix no longer works. How come?, and how do i get my info tips back where they belong?.

by Guest Paul- 4 replies

My update notifications for my antivirus program is goofing up. Someone told me that Windows Security Center will notify me if av definitions are older than 7 days. Is this true? I have always had the security center service disabled. If I turn it on again, can I have it set only to come into the System Tray and notify me if something is wrong? -- Paul MS Office Pro 2003 XP Home Dell Inspiron 1501

Both my wife and I are uding Outlook 2003 for our e-mail. She asked me if I could put my Address Book on her computer so I went to the Knowledge Base and downloaded quite a few documents. For a couple weeks now I have been trying all the various methods for copying Outlook.pst and Archive.pst files to her computer and I have been successful, but with one problem... I only want to put my Address Book on her computer, but when I follow all the Import/Export instructions I seem to get my entire Personal Folder with my Inbox, Saved Documents and every other item under my Personal Folders, but no change in her Address Book!!! It appears explorer.exe is not starting when some of our users logon. They can get it to start by using task manager. I found a hotfix supplied by Microsoft (list above), but although the install finishes, the KB log indicates the following: 8.047: KB948277 Setup encountered an error: The update.ver file is not correct. This started with just a few users, now its creeping through the network. Its not a virus, and now other office (not on our network) are having the same issue. Any help is appreciated.

Free Antivirus suggestions
by Guest Navyguy- 19 replies

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with XP SP2, DSL and presently have AVG, Comodo, SpywareBlaster, and Hive Cleanup as well as System Mechanic. I'm on a fixed income and really can't afford to buy too much. Within a day or so my free AVG version will no longer be supported and I was wondering if there is another free version I could use? Avast? Kaspersky? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Robert

by Guest Amanda- 3 replies

Hi. I need to format my machine but by doing so I will obviously lose all the automatic updates that have been installed for the last three years. I use automatic updates and was wondering where they sat on my PC - so that I could copy them and then reinstall them after formatting - if I have to download them all agin my bandwidth will be lost for months!!!. Many thanks Amanda

Dessous Erotic Lingerie Shop http://dessouserotic.com
by Guest melissa- 0 replies

Date mysteriously changing.
by Guest Amanda- 4 replies
For some unknown reason the date in my XP Pro SP2 "Date & Time Properties" has suddenly decided to change the current day to a date 8 days ahead. Why - heavens knows. I can select the date - click "apply" and then one second later literally watch the highlighted date gently change from the current day to 8 days ahead. I've tried everything I can think of - does anyone have any ideas because it is a bit awkward sending mails etc as it looks as if I'm in the future. Many thanks.

What is it and do I need it for the computer run right. I checked it in the add and remove and it told me was rarely used. As I have no Idea as to what it is or what it does that would be the reason for rarely used being there.
