connects to voip but not web pages
by Guest john westmore_______- 7 replies

our laptop with windows xp installed has suddenly stopped opening web pages. It is normally connected to the modem via a wireless adaptor. The belkin modem 'utility page' shows the modem as being connected to the internet. Connecting the lap top to the modem via a cable enables us connected to our voip phone, so something is getting through, but it still will not open web pages. Grateful for any advice, thanks.

by Guest l.rehak@email.cz- 3 replies

When I want to select a folder and go there I have to use the left mouse button and double click. But sometimes I click sooner than the cursor is on the desired folder and the cursor movement meanwhile moves the near-by folder into the other one. Which could be a big problem in a business directory tree!! How can I change the default behaviour of the drag&drop with left mouse button in Windows Explorer? Any updated idea? I can not find any good advice on the Net..

Most Programs will not Execute
by Guest mabowden@hotmail.com- 4 replies

I have a PC running XP Home, SP2. It had many viruses and spyware on it which have now been cleaned up. But after booting and logging in as an administrator, most programs will not load. On icons such as Internet Explorer, Symantec AntiVirus, or Command prompt for example, clicking the icon results in the pop-up message "Choose the program you want to use to open this file", and a list of registered programs is displayed. Essentially, any .EXE file seems to have this program. But oddly enough, I can right-click most of these same programs, choose "Run As" and execute the program that way. For example, right- clicking Start - All Programs - Accessories - Co…

A friend has no sound on his Compac desktop.. In control panel, systems, hardware, device manager, when sound and game controllers is expanded the sound driver is disabled. Right clicking to get the drop down menu has no 'enable' to put a check on and therefore cannot be enabled. I'm stumped. Anyone any idea? Bios setting?? Registry bad? Sound driver is latest version from manufacturer. This occurred when restoring system to state it was in when bought. Thanks!

by Guest alberttsay- 2 replies

Hi, When I play any video the windows media player's video is so dark that is cannot be viewed. It is just like an encrypted video that is protected. All video files can not be played right, including my own avi from camcorder. However, all video can be played in my other computer. I download and install WMP_11 again then the video viewing is fine. I was so happy that I thought the problem resolved. However, after reboot, the problem comes back that no video can be played (viewable). Anybody might know what is wrong with my computer? (xp sp2) Thanks Albert

Web Mail or Client Mail
by Guest tommyvin- 2 replies
I'm using Windows XP and AT&T Web Mail. A few minutes ago I clicked on Internet Options/Program tab. I noticed in the E-mail: line "Microsoft Outlook." My question is: Would there be any advantage in setting up Outlook Express? Does a Client Mail program have benefits that Web Mail does not have? My second question is: If I stay with Web Mail, should I change that line in the Internet Options/Program tab? The dropdown menu has several options, none of which seem appropriate - Outlook Express, MSN Explorer, Windows Live Mail. Should I just type in AT&T Mail or leave well enough alone?

Is there something that comes with WinXP that can do it - like after defrag possibly? Or some inexpensive or free download that can do it ? Or even a program that runs from a boot disk? TIA Bill S.
